Could someone please come up with a solor panel(maybe to take the place of the clumsy screen cover) to cheaply and easily recharge a battery module that would power the visor. Now that would be a computer for the masses in Africa, South America etc.

Thumbs up

Now *that* is a great idea...

Flip top cover with embedded solar cells - the hinge sits just above the springboard slot... hmmm.

now by my best counts- $3.00 every 2-3 weeks
amounts to about $60.00 per yr in battery cost, not to mention the inconvenient trips to the store and the unexpected low power crashes.

A passive solar panel constantly charging the batteries in the module(perhaps even a reverse flow to the standard batteries already being used? - hardware hackers take note.)would save a lot of grief and money.

I'm sure in quantity, it could be mass marketed under $20.00 US

Wink

but then you have to leave your visor laying out in the sun! Always thought that wasn't good for delicate electronic objects!

Just kidding! Couldn't pass it up. Promising idea.

Cool

I know that this a primarily ( only ?) visor webpage/forum, but seeing as A) i love my IIIx and am keeping it and B) the III/IIIx already has the flip top, i would be very interested in the posiblilties of jury rigging a solar charger to my palm (can anyone say beta-tester)

BTW, solar panels that produce about 9v (amperage unknown) work fine in florescant lighting like in a school and/or office.

Also, check out this (sorry i dont know the coding for a link so youl have to copy theurl to your browser address line):http://www.palmstation.com/view_article.py?article=1057

Click on the links about the recharging cradles (does anyone know how to do this)
