Wink

I can't sleep so I'm brainstorming....

1. Electric Razor Springboard: Wouldn't that be cool? You could check email while you shaved! Don't forget the pop-up sideburn trimmer.

2. Or how about a barbeque grill starter springboard? The software could display a checklist that you'd have to answer before it would light. The product liability lawyers would hate this one. A fireplace starter mode should be easy to incorporate, too.

3. This one is more serious: What about a springboard that served as an interface to a microwave oven? You could store a recipe database in the Visor, then it would control the microwave oven. Perfect food every time. If you had a barcode scanner as part of the module, you could scan the food and the database would know the cooking parameters. I bet the appliance mfr's would never sign-on, though.

4. Alarm clock springboard. The Visor alarm is no doubt too weak to be effective for this. (If HS would ever ship my unit, I'd now for sure!) So how about a cheap alarm thingee. Probably would need a stand and it's own power source, but that would be great if it could power the Visor, too, so that you could leave the backlight on all night. Add an AM/FM tuner, too. In addition to a speaker in the module, add a stereo out jack so that you could use bigger & better speakers. Think of everything you could do with the software for this one. Multiple alarms. Program different alarm times for different days fo the week, different radio stations for different alarms, etc.

5. Garage door opener/car alarm/remote entry controller. Should be very simple. Probably best added as another feature of another unit.

6. Beer bottle opener. Could be added to another S/B, too, but probably not the one above.

7. Stun gun. Have it auto-discharge whenever in range of a WinCE device. Also not to be combined with the bottle opener S/B.

8. Order system management springboard module. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Barbecue, perfect food and beer? Axeman, I will be over soon... sounds like your house is a great place to be... Just don't tag me with the stun gun when I hop the fence...

I could just see it now... Axeman has the visor in his jeans and all the sudden Bill Gates walks next to him and the Stungun activates automaticly and shocks axeman

Red face

Yowza! OK, better scratch the auto-discharge idea.

Exclamation

How about this:

Bill Gates happens to have a Visor (which he uses instead of his WinCE device) and has the stungun springboard screwed up, and gets shocked, which causes a large PR problem, and makes Billy tell the truth:

PALM OS BEATS WIN-CE (by far)

Speaking of Gates, watched the South Park movie tonight, and the part about Gates and Win98 was hilarious!

Well, here I am again, sleepless....

After hearing about the credit card double-swiping scam that came to light this week, I've been thinking about a few darker Springboard modules:

1. Did you see the story about parking meters that use smart cards? How about a modlue with a card attached via wire that will let you hack the meter? (Like the ATM-hacking device that the kid in Terminator 2 used.) With appropriate (inappropriate?) software, you could get into all kinds of trouble with this one.

2. Cable-TV stealer module, with coax in and out jacks. Could rapidly try different decodings to make those premium and pay-per-view channels come in clearly. Just tap a button when the picture is clear.

3. For all you phone phreakers out there, how about a "rainbow box" module with a speaker and phone jack?

4. Car alarm code grabber. Remember the story a year or so ago about thieves capturing IR remote codes with a Palm III? Most suto security systems use RF, not IR. With the right module, you could grab RF codes, too.

5. Tick remover module. This one would have 2 electrodes that you put on the little beasty, then a high voltage, low amperage discharge zaps 'em. Love that smell! Could also use to cauterize wounds.

6. Mickey Finn analyzer module. Say you step away from the table for a few minutes and are unsure of your companion's intent. Just put the probe into your drink, and it analyzes for chloral hydrate, rhohypnol, and a variety of other compounds. In a minute or two you're slamming 'em down again, hardly missing a beat.

7. South Park detector module. Using speech-recognition software, sets off an alarm when multiple 4-letter words are recognized. Could also include "Sammy the Sailor" game. Can you beat the high score?

8. EMP module. Hey, law enforcement wants to be able to stop cars by knocking out the electronics, so why shouldn't the bad guys be able to, too? Would have to have shielding, unless Visors get so cheap that they can be a use once and discard type of device.

**The above post is intended for entertainment purposes only and in no way reflects the personal beliefs of the author or VisorCentral, so don't get any ideas, ok?**
