The time has come...
(excluding the refurbs)...
HS has "finnaly" stopped selling Visor handhelds.
Of course, we all knew this would happen, well, we knew it for a fact that it would happen.
To bad HS is out of the game (phone wise and PDA wise), it "used" to be a great company. Don't get me wrong, I still love their products, I actually still use one (as my phone w/ my VisorPhone, NR70 is my main PDA), but the technology is too old for any of us to buy today.
lol...i don't feel like saying anything else. I used to be a HS backer, but now I've switched sides and went to Sony...

I'm with you. Handspring is dead, they have been for a long time in my book.....and so is this website for that matter. My Prism and it's five springboards will soon be replaced by a Tungsten|C. I've never liked Sony because of their memory sticks. Seems they made another memory format just because they could get away with it.
I agree. Handspring is dead. I owned a platinum and a prism and finally switched to Sony. Too bad--I thought visor was a great product.
This web site seems to be on its last breath too. Not very many posts anymore. This was the first PDA board I joined and I learned a lot from it. Too bad.
still love my prism...
Guess I'm the hold out. I just bought a Paraphone, MMC/SD memplug, and a total recall voice recorder. I also have a GPS companion, Minijam, Handcam and a Targus keyboard. I have to admitt that I've looked with envy at some of the newer PDA's but with so many modules its painful to give them up. The only thing I would really like is a hi res screen. Aaaah well, I keep hoping handspring will re-enter the PDA market with a new generation of products, although I have to admitt the Treo is about the crappiest product I've ever seen (having been a product designer for 2 years it makes me want to throw up).
In any case, my prism did everything I expected it to do and more 2 years ago and still does today. I just can't justify the cost of purchasing into the new technology when eventually it too will go the way of my lowly visor.
Strange Tanks
Visors, one way or another, are going to be around and in use for a long time to come ... especially for book readers.

Visor is not dead yet!
My goodness, it took me 15 tries just to register on this web fourm. Anyway, I never been a PDA kind of person who needs to organize his or her life down to the minute. My first exposer to Visor is via Ebay recently, where it is selling at around 40 to 50 bucks. I got one and then I went accessory happy with the Visor, first I got a SprintPCS Visor phone for $25. a year or so ago it was selling at $250, Wow! Next I got a Magllean GPS for Visor whcih fit just right on the palm of my hand when I travel, and then I got a Targus Disital Camera for Visor. All of which for very low prices, and you can still found more stuff on Ebay. What I trying to say is that even-though Handspring is given Visor up for dead does not means it's going vanish from the face of the Earth. I'm not willing to spend $500 for some PDA and Visor with its many accessories suits me just fine.
P.S. Does anyone knows how to have multiple Visors installed on one computer? Thanks.
Well, yes. The Newton has also been 'dead' for quite a while now (was it 1999?), but those are still being sold by quite a few people on eBay, the pricetag is still quite a ways up there. I got nostalgic one day, and wanted to buy a Newton 2x00, but they are still in the ~$150 price range (for a usable unit.. with like new & mint 2100's easily going for $400+).
A lot of products have died, of course that doesn't mean they vanished off the earth at that point..
I'll keep my Edge forever probbably. I've switched to a Tungsten C, and love love love it! Load of memory, nice screen, and speedy!
But I use my Edge with my Minijam Trio for listening to music since the T|C is mono, and its worked out well! I like having a backup unit around, and springboards are so cheap, its great to pick up modules for $25.00 that used to be $200.00.
Too bad...HS missteps have cost them dearly.

That's Cool, thanks MarkEagle.
it's been months and months since my last post... i've bought a Sony NZ90, and have been on the "cliesource" forums ever since.
...Handspring was a great company for about 1-2 years...then they got out of the business... now their site doesn't even seem to be up??? -I am sure it's just a glitch that they'll have fixed. Anyhow, I think it's safe to assume that the Visor is dead and buried and now I see funeral arrangements for the rest of the Handspring line..it's just a matter of time before their phones stop selling also (with so many other better brands and models out there to choose from).
Besides feeling sorry for us the customers who bought into the Handspring products, I feel for the many employees who have lost their jobs due to mis-guidedance on the part of the leaders of the company who thought they were doing positive things for the company. In reality they probably only stuffed their own pocketc books while laying off the entire company! -And this doesn't even mention all the other companies that had to lay off employees because they were no longer making new "springboard" modules...
sad, sad, sad -i'd say handspring should be an example of how not to run a company!

i have read about this device, there were some posts on some of the other PDA sites about it.
-sounds like they are still playing catch up in the phone business, even w/ this new device... it looks interesting, but not as cool as many of the phones already out...
just my opinion..
Just popped back in here for a quick look
Well saw the front page about the Palm buying HS news, and - WOW - only 2 threads shown left in the GENERAL CHAT forum
Can't ever forget the turning point of all these - the day they announced that HS will be dropping Springboards or something along those lines

I'm just a dreamer..
It has been AGES since I last posted.
I have moved on since my days way back when with the first generation Handspring units- I had an ice deluxe and a springboard unit with a vibrating alert and 2mb memory. I've since donated the unit to my brother and have used Pocket PCs since. However, I may start to look for a used Visor Edge for a family member's use. It has an unbelievable form factor, and this person only wants to use if for simple PIM functions.
Anyone else remember the threads dedicated to those of us who orderd the first gen systems? We tracked their distribution, by color and state, on a map. Some of us received our units in days, others in months. Memories...
Sad to hear that Handspring has pulled out of the PDA market, but I'm not too surprised. I was waiting on the sidelines for years hoping for a ground-breaking handheld to be developed and released, a'la the Sony NX line. It seems they only reused old designs (I'm thinking of the Neo line here- a bitter disappointment to me, IMHO) and we never saw the kind of state-of-the-art designs I expected. Their Treos are fine, but I use a PPC phone edition instead. I did a side-by-side demo and selected the best solution for my needs. I really, really wanted to choose the Handspring, but couldn't justify it.
What a shame. Now they are part of Palm.
. Sorry
