OS Versions

Can someone tell me, or let me know what the differences in each of the OS versions are. Basically, I'm wondering how they all really differ from each other.

Suppose I buy a HandSpring Visor running 3.5.2H. How would that differ from a Deluxe running 3.1 or a Palm running 4.0 or 3.5???

Will I be limited to software that's made to run on 4.0 if I go with a Handspring? Or can all the software out there run on any OS version?

Well basically 3.1 OS and 3.5.2 OS for Platinum, Pro, Neo, Prism and Edge are big different that Deluxe because for example you buying a computer that has a processor of 233 MHZ and now in the market they have 700 MHZ it's more faster that you have ..and some of the device are not compatible you have to get an updated driver for you device like HANDHELD 3rd party software you might need an updated patches for 3rd aprty software..and OS upgrade are more faster that the deluxe 3.1 OS..hope it answer you question just email me if you any question [email protected]

i dissagree. the difference is not so much like processor speed, it's like different versions of ms windows.

the upshot:

os3.11(visor solo, deluxe)
-limited grayscale support(it was more difficult for developers to write software that uses more than 4 shades of gray for these models.) nevertheless, there are programs that will display 16 shades of gray on these devices
-limited irda networking. its a bit complicated to connect your ir enabled phone to your visor.

3.5.5 (plat,neo,pro,prism.edge)
has those two things that 3.11 didn't

plus, all those new models are faster that the vdx and solo. of course, you could always overclock your vdx, but i did that for 8 months, and now it wont overclock at all without hard reseting.

there are almost no programs that only run on os4, and in the past, it has taken a LONG time before a new os has become 'outdated'

heck, most new programs would still run on os2.0, and most of the programs out thre will run on a palmpilot personal!
