I captured this video from ZDTV that shows some of the cool springboards from PC EXPO.

Its about 4.5 megs and is in .avi format. You may need the latest Windows Media player to play the .avi because I encoded it with the new DivX codec.

I downloaded the file (thanks for capturing it by the way--nice of you to do) and tried to play it in WMA 6.4.07.1112, didn't work--did "Check for Update", no updates--still said file format invalid. I also downloaded the new Windows Media Player 7 Beta--still wouldn't play. What exact version are you using to play this? If others are having similar problems--maybe you'd consider trying RealProducer (Basic--it's free)--I use it all the time when I capture stuff from tv/dvd.

Question

What program do you use to encode in DivX? I have the CODECs for decoding (I don't have the link to get them on me right now) but I want to make sure I have the best encoder. I just got a TV tuner card for my PC, and I want to burn my VHS tapes of some movies I have onto CDs for when I'm at college. Needless to say, if I can convert from MPEG-1 to DivX, it'll really save disk space.

Thanks!

Sorry about that. I realized this morning that in order to run it you need the DivX codec loaded. It is a small download and you can get it at:
http://divx.ctw.cc/index_main.html

Download the .zip file, extract it. Right click on the .inf file and choose install. Then run the register_divx.exe file. This will allow you to play.

The DivX codec is getting very popular these days. It allows you to do some major compression with good quality.

I would re-do it in real-audio but I deleted my master files.

Thanks,

Heyday

Petro,

I used Virtual Dub to do my encoding. I'm sure there are others out there but this is what I at the moment. You have to download the DivX codecs though.

Where did you get Virtual Dub? Does it record at a high quality? Getting the Codecs isn't a problem, I have those. I just need an encoder so I can transfer my MPEG-1 Files into DivX.

Thanks!
