I thought WriteRights were a good idea. I changed my mind. Their only purpose is to significantly blurr the screen of my Platinum. Unless you are using sandpaper on the tip of your stylus, why bother? That screen was MADE to be tapped. The WriteRights really blurr the screen to a very significant degree. WriteRights are even worse on the Prism. I have removed WriteRite from my Platinum, and now I enjoy the clear, wonderful, easy to read screen of the Platinum. [WriteRights might be necessary if you use your Handspring as a football.] Don't waste your money. If by any chance my screen becomes damaged from the stylus (I really doubt that will ever happen) I'll have the perfect excuse to buy another Handspring. I am serious.

Well, I'm not sure I agree. My first Palm OS device was a Palm Pro. The grafitti area became all scratched before I discovered writerights. It was so bad that I thought I could actually feel the little scratches as I moved the stylus about.

I agree they aren't optimal - it always used to surprise me how sharp my VDx's screen was when I took one off. I don't think the color ones are as bad to look at, but the surface is inferior to write on.

However, it's better than scratching up the screen.

My first Palm OS device was a Palm 3. I used it for a little more than a year with the factory stylus and no screen protection and never had any problems. When I first went to use my Platinum with the factory Handspring stylus it felt like crap. Almost like the stylus was dragging across the screen rather than gliding. I tried the stylus from my Palm 3 on the platinum and it felt really smooth. SO I've concluded that it's not so much the screen being fragile as it is the stylus is not smooth enough. Unfortunatly the tip on the Palm's stylus doesn't allow it to fit into the handsprings silo. Has anyone else notice this to be true?

when i stick it to my prism, it makes my prism screen become a rainbow. the colour become blur(so you can see red, green, and blue dots). I use the writeright for palm 3c and it's not working.

I Love My Prism!

Go to Wal-Mart in their fabric section and get a roll of clear vinyl. I think it cost <$1 per sq. yard. I have been using this for months now on my Prism and love it. It is difficult to get them on w/o bubbles, but it is better than no screen protection at all. They are perfectly clear with no rainbow effect mentioned above. Cheap and functional.

This is simple. You need to use the WR's desgined for the IIIC (color) screens. Problems solved-at least on BW screens.

If your screen protectors are blurry or if they exhibit the rainbow effect on a color device, try this. *Before* you put the protector sheet on your Visor, clean it well with Windex on a paper towel. When I did this, the goofy anti-glare coating disolved and I was left with crystal clear screen protectors. It took some work to get them completely clean -- you'll use a few paper towels and a fair bit of Windex. This was the only way that I could use them with my Prism. I would imagine that the IIIc-specific ones do not have this coating on them.

Gadgetguru's suggestion is probably the best one in this thread. That's the route I'll go next.

I use Write-Rights, but only a third. I cut them down so that they cover just the graffiti area of my Visor. That way they protect the part of my screen that's most likely to get scratched but they don't obscure the display.

I also cut the writerights into strips and apply them to the graffiti area. It works great. I tried using the writerights for the Palm IIIc (the clear ones without the antiglare) and didn't like those, either. I cannot deal with bubbles under the screen protector - not even a tiny one. I also like the way the writerights for Visor feel on the graffiti area. My graffiti accuracy improved quite a bit, too.

I polish my screen every other week and use a PDA Panache stylus. I also carry a lens cleaning cloth with me to dust any dust or lint on my screen before writing on it. I haven't scratched my screen since.

I use Screen Clean and it is made specifically for PDA screens. It is supposed to remove scratches, but it didn't remove any of the small ones I had in the graffiti area. Screen Clean makes the screen extremely smooth - the stylus glides right over the screen. I would highly recommend it. I purchased it at PalmGear for $14.95. I have had mine for a few months and I haven't even used a quarter of the bottle (that's using it every other week).

The reason your Prism screen was showing the rainbow effect was answered above. You need the protectors designed for color devices (i.e. the IIIC). These are the same size as the Prism's screen and work fairly well. My only gripe is small marks appear on this thin plastic protector after awhile, anyone else get these?

Alternative to right writes - Rain-X

If you don't like plastic film on your screen try what I use:

A couple drops of Rain-X to polish and protect the surface.
The same stuff sold for your car windshield.

I don't like Write Rights either. Blurry screen and they cost way too much. Plus, the batch I just got has these like spots all over them. MAKES IT EVEN MORE BLURRY! Does the Windex trick really work?
