I have been using my Visor at work and at home for about a month, pretty much flawlessly. Running many applications and hacks. Then yesterday, I start having problems synching at the office on the serial cradle. I talk to cust support all day and try to get it fixed, eventually I try another PC in my office by installing the software and still doesnt work. My assumption is that it is now the cradle.

Anyone else have a simmilar problem??

Handspring now tells me that many people are complaining of the same thing at the the cradles are now backorderd.

Any ideas as to if it might we fixable???

Did you try soft-booting your Visor? Perhaps it needs a kick in the pants.

Yes, I have done both a hard and a soft reset.

Yes, I am experiencing the same problem, but I don't think it is the cradle - i think it is the visor.

I have been able to hot sync, but experienced the same problem where it would just stop. I got it working again by doing a hard boot, but now it will not sync again and nothing will work. I have hard booted reinstalled all software and nothing. I have also tested it with my colleagues Visor in the same cradle on the same machine and it works fine on his.

Let me know if anybody has found a resolution to this problem...

After about 2 weeks my serial cradle quit. I could see some activity on the port, but no hot sync. I erased/uninstalled/reloaded/rebooted/reset everthing possible with no results. I finally tried another computer and it didn't work there either. USB hotsync was working fine. The only reason I wasn't sure the cradle was the problem was the activity on the port.

A call to Tech Support (15 minutes hold, 10 minutes trouble shooting) and the tech said there had been problems and would send another cradle.

I received the cradle earlier this week (less than one week wait) and it worked immediately.

There seems to be a lot of serial cradle problems and Handspring was quick to suggest a replacement. I plan to disassemble both units and see if the circuit has changed before sending the old one back.

I have now been through 2 serial cradles in 3 weeks. (Confirmed by successfully HotSyncing with a friend's serial cradle on my computer.)

Pretty lousy quality!

Thumbs up

Just got a replacement cradle from Handspring last night. Now I can sync again. Being persistent on the phone helps...

Talking

Last night I called up Handspring on their 888 sales number, and reached a helpful woman who helped me right away. I told her what was wrong, and what I thought I needed (a replacement serial cradle, and proved that my visor bdx worked great in a usb cradle hooked to friend's box) and she put me on hold a few times for only a few minutes each, sent out a new serial cradle and gave me an rma number. I tried their tech support and cust. service numbers, but classes prevented me from reaching them during their regular business hours. Their sales department should double as their customer care dept. =)
I was very impressed. Thanks Handspring!

Ok. After a week of no syncing with my serial cradle, I decided to give it another try and it synced. But after 2 syncs, it failed to work again. There's definitely something wrong here.

I have had the same problem - my 3rd serial cradle! This one worked, then stopped working. I soft resetted and reinstalled the software but nothing. Then it just started working again! But it was erratic and the s/w kept hanging up at the "identifying user" start of a hotsync. Then it died. My wife has lost 2, and co-workers have lost 5 collectively. Something is definitely wrong here! Handspring was not admitting anything to me, and went so far as to waste 30 minutes of my time having me reinstall s/w on the phone when I told them I had done that and went through the steps. How many times can they tell me to slow down the serial speed! Now they tell me I have to call customer service because they (tech support) cannot issue RMA's anymore. So 30 minutes with them, and now another 15-30 waiting for customer service. Whats the street price on a Palm Vx?

We are having problems with HotSyncs & cradles, here at work. We trying to track down the cause. The only common factor in the 2 machines,(besides the visors) is that we use novell netware on PCs. Does anyone else using netware have hotsync problems?

Lightbulb

I have come to believe that handspring has kept costs down by producing these highly inferior cradles. My colleague and I have been through 3 of them in two months.

We are trying something new. Jet eye!! An infrared device that attaches to your rear serial port, just like the cradle. Hopefully it will work better than the cradle.

Good luck everyone and may the cradle gods be with you

Hey Greyb - Do you have Jet Eye already? Does it just plug into a port on your PC - and then you just point your visor at it?
