But that is part of the problem of going OT, people who have replied to this thread or subscribed to it get a message saying "there has been a reply"... This in it's self is good. But when it goes off topic, people unsubscribe to that thread and the thread is no longer of value.

BTW - that is what I am now doing.

I appologize to all for going off the subject. Given the recent publicity, I felt that I needed to respond.

Wow, same problem here. It's unpredictable. But most of the time it serves as the backspace key for me. It may be good enough of a reason to go back to the old version, because this new one doesn't provide anything useful. Pointer- pish.

Same problem on my CLIE using WordSmith and the new drivers.

Now that is irritating. Fortunately, next to the PDA itself, the Stowaway is the coolest thing out there.

Also, has anyone else noticed that touching any key on the keyboard powers the PDA on? The other new thing is the PDA automatically turns on when you seat it on the connector.

That actually was a feature in the original Stowaways for Palms - As of 1.6, EVERY keybaord but the Visor ones can automaticly turn on 0 the Visor's one's messed up serial port screw it up so it doesn't wok..

Now I notice another oddity. When in WordSmith, I can hit Function Menu and get the drop down list. I can then use the ArrowKeys to navigate said menu's. This works fine.

However, outside of WordSmith, this does not appear to work at all. I hit Function Menu and the Menu pops down, but if I hit the ArrowKeys, the Menu goes away.

I bring this up only because I thought it worked on my Prism. I know the older driver did not support this in OS3.1, because it does not work on my wife's Deluxe, but I would have bet it worked on my Prism.

Can anyone confirm if it works on one of the OS3.5 devices?

I haven't noticed this. Is there perhaps an option somewhere?...I'll check this out because that would be a great feature.

This is a wordsmith feature. You'll also note that when you're in the doc index, hitting the left arrow switches to memos, the right to docs. Wordsmith is specifically designed with the stowaway in mind, which is why I'm surprised that a delete key issue popped up.

btw: it's got to be the driver, as it happened once I updated it, not WS.

Same trouble here... and it's only happening within WordSmith on both Doc's and Memo's. In other apps, it appears to function properly.

Has anyone gone back to (or is still using) the old driver to see if the problem exists?

I've done a little testing here. In WordSmith, positioning the cursor within some text and pressing Delete does, in fact, delete the next and previous characters. However, selecting a string of text and then pressing Delete only deletes the selection, not the previous character.

You mean the picture, right? I retired it (for now) in an effort to reduce the overall size of my signature.

Plus, I'm using it as an incentive for the Friendly Fat Fellow to bring me something new! I don't want him to think I'm content with my almost 2-yr old VDx (though in reality, I am). <from the guy who put "world peace" in the wishlist thread >

Trouble with driver and pda cable to cell phone

Anyone else having trouble with connection of a Visor to a cell phone (Motorola StarTac) after installing Stowaway driver 1.6? I can hotsync and use the KeyBoard but the Visor no longer recognizes the serial port modem with the cell phone.

Have you disabled the driver prior to connecting the StarTAC? The driver "polls" the serial port looking for the keyboard and most likely is getting confused by the phone being there. I've used my VDx/StarTAC combo since upgrading to 1.6 and haven't noticed any problems (sorry, I can't test it for you right now because my wife took off with my phone and won't be home for a while...)

The Mrs. came home and I've tested the StarTAC connection with and without the driver enabled and it works either way. It could be that your serial port is "locked"... a soft reset should fix it.

Soft reset and Up key reset

The soft reset combined with the up key reset seemed to clear the problem. Thanks for the help.

I don't have any hacks, so I don't know why this helped. 1.6 also seems to ask for the keyboard serial no. after some but not all the resets. (I seem to reset about once or twice a week.) It seems a little annoying, but I wonder if something else is going on that causes it to lose my serial no.
