So then the question is what software app is causing the software-related problems? Stall, freezes, slowness? We would'nt be using some clever little OS hack would we?

I'm proud to say I've been Hackmaster-free for 11 months now!

I have found that the stowaway keyboard driver causes this momentary "stall" on my machine (had the same problem on my Palm Vx/keyboard combo).

Disable the driver (if you're using it) and this should clear up the problem.

If not...hacks seem to be the most likely culprit.
Enable and disable one by one...that should root out the problem.

But that puts one at such a handicap!
I'm currently using:

For the most part, it is my considered opinion that if you are not using at least some of these, you are working too hard.
FindHack makes the 'find' function vastly more powerful.
PopUp Calculator allows one to popup a tiny calculator over top of the currently running program, and allows one to paste the results into the current program.
SafeHack automatically hides all your private data upon Visor power down.
TealGlance displays your current priority ToDo list and your impending appointments when you power up your Visor.
MiddleCaps Hack allows one to capitalize graffiti on the fly, it is one of the most useful hacks.
TapPad driver allows one to use the TapPad, which is one of those indispensible things that should be standard equipment with all Visors ( http://www.tappad.com )

I've had my Visor for a bit over a year, and none of these hacks have bothered it (or at least not bothered it so much that I noticed).

I beg to differ. In my considered opinion, restoring 7-plus MB of data, minus recent entries on a regular basis due to hard crashes from memory or GUI conflicts is far too much to pay. Especially when the hack enabler is not regularly updated to match incremental OS updates.

Imagine using a Hackmaster OS patch in November 2000 that was created on Sept. 1997. A version 0.9 at that. Wow! I think this one wins the S/M award for the decade.

Sure, every Visor user has to make that decision for themselves.

I'm generally pretty paranoid about new hacks (and it took a long time before I took the risk of my first hack). I always do a full backup with Backup Buddy before I take a new hack for a test drive.

Currently I use hacks due to the following facts:

But I could easily be driven into your camp if one of my hacks reared up and trashed my data.

Note well that I am extremely conservative about adding new hacks. I haven't added a new one in over half a year, with the exception of the TapPad enabler. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and all related bromides.

My Prism is perfect, as is my VDx (purchased last November).

Hacks? I wasn't really using any on the VDx, so I didn't bother keeping them on the Prism. Only software problems I've had was Quickbits and Matrix (a clock app). I dl'd the most recent versions of each and haven't had a problem since.
