Which one?
I was looking to get a pda for high school this year and I was wondering which ones you would recommend. I would like to spend no more than $150. I don't need anything fancy, just something to track of my assignments with. I was looking at visor edge, neo, and deluxe so far. I was wondering if I should go with a visor or a different company, Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.
What I would get
Although you might only want the "essentials" right now for a PDA I suggest you get the most for your money by buying a refurbished Visor. I personally have a Visor Pro and you can get a used one for $150 bucks now. It has 16mb of memory vs 8mb that you would get with the neo or platinum and it runs on rechargable batteries. I would also recommend a program called "Student 4.0" by Hallmark. I'm currently a college student and couldn't see getting by without it. Check it out and you can demo it before you buy www.hallmark.com
As far as going with another compnay I wouldnt feel comfortable answering it since I have only owned a Visor and therefor I am biased.
THanks for your help. I'll check out that program. I was thinking about the Sony clie but I don't believe that it is mac compatilible so i'll probobaly get a visor. Still not sure which one though.
Pepp is right, the Visor Pro could be your best bet, and refurbished units are available at compusa.com for only 129.99 USD.
However, his reference to the Student software cannot be correct. "Hallmark" makes greeting cards and gift products. "Handmark" is a PalmOS software company. Also try Palmware.com for freeware and shareware.
I own a Visor Prism, primarily for the color screen, which is beautiful! But if you just want nuts & bolts, basic black & white is just fine. Even better, you can read it outside in bright daylight, something the Prism screen prevents you from doing.
I am planning on getting either a Platinum or Neo (pretty much the same except for the case) or a Pro to complement and back up my Prism. Not sure yet whether extra 8 MB RAM and rechargeable battery is better than the ability to use plain old
AAA batteries. You can always put NiMH rechargeables into a Neo/Plat. But a 16 MB RAM memory is awfully tempting. More than doubles the number of photos you could take with the Eyemodule!
Oh, yeah, be SURE you buy a backup module of some kind, especially if you load in software that might crash your system. Much easier and more convenient than depending on a Hot Synch for backup. I would also suggest a memory expansion module like the Memplug. Choose one that uses memory (SmartMedia, Compact Flash, MultiMediaCard, etc.) compatible with your other devices, like MP3 player, digital camera, etc. That way, when you upgrade to a larger memory, you can use the original cards for Visor storage.
Have fun!

Franklin Covey also has a pretty decent student software package. I haven't used it (been out of school way too long and can't wait to go back) but I've seen it. Looks nice.
