In my inbox:
You are receiving this email because you chose to be contacted when the CSM150 was shipping. Thank you for your interest in the CSM150 bar code scanning module for Handspring Visor and for your continured patience. After an extremely positive beta review, the CSM150 is now available for purchase via Symbol Online. Special thanks to all who participated in our evalutaion. Please use the following URL http://online.symbol.com/buyprod?prod=csm150 to purchase online.
Key features of the CSM150 scanning module are: 2MBof memory on board for use as backup or data storage. File Mover application pre-installed, Scanner Trigger selection and Test scanning applications also pre-installed..
No additional batteries necessary, scratch resistant exit window and an extremely small, lightweight design. All this makes for a highly impressive consumer scanning device.
Please remember the CSM150 scanning module does not come with a End User software application. A SDK (software developers kit) can be downloaded from the url listed online http://www.symbol.com/services/down...e_spt1500.html.
If you are one of a number of companies currently developing applications for the CSM150 or any other Symbol consumer scanning device, please send us feedback. We would like to know what you are up to and help to promote your solutions.
Thank you and enjoy your new product!

Happy Treo 600 user, so far. Thanx Cingular for having an unlocked phone.
My Treo 600 is my phone, my PDA, my watch, and my MP3 player. Oh yeah, I take a picture once in a while with it. Convergence is such a great thing.
I want REVIEW!!!

my dreams came true...
Has anyone used the CSM 150 scanner module yet? I am thinking about developing an application that utilizes it, but haven't been able to get one from Symbol.

My father-in-law and two brother-in-laws ranch. Cattle management is a problem. They already put an identifying tag on the ear of each cow for tracking.
Imagine now having a unique bar code on that tag. The tag number linked to a database (thinkDB app, perhaps) entry. Any time a cow's tag is scanned, it opens that database to that entry. The current date and time are added automatically, and the rancher can add data or pick from a list whatever records he wants to update or supplement. Some cows break out repeatedly, and are often sold once identified as "troublemakers". Some are bad mothers. If each interaction with a cow was scanned and noted in that cow's record patterns would quickly become obvious. Cows that gain weight more efficiently could be identified, perhaps automatically, with a filter to flag the cow's record if regular weighings indicated unusual growth.
OK, so you're not a rancher. I'm not either. I guess my point is: With a little creativity a bar code scanner accessible from a custom database could be an amazingly effective way to manage collections, inventory, and many other things. If it's got (or can be given) a bar code, then you can take advantage of it.
No, I don't work for the bar code maker.

excatly!
Amen, brother! There is quite a bit of potential for scanner apps. Several companies have made proprietary scanning tools over the last few years, but the beauty of the Springboard is that the Visor can be used for "normal" tasks and converted to a scanner when needed. A dedicated device is not needed (other than the Springboard module).
I have a potential customer who wants a scanning system that they would only use a few weeks per year. They would certainly benefit from being able to adapt their Visors that they use everyday for contact mgmt, appointment tracking, etc. to a scanner!
Now if I can just get my hands on the scanner!

CSM150 in use, several concerns
I am using a csm150 and it seems to work very well. My problem stems from the fact that many developers haven't taken the time to scan-enable their applications. For instance, I use FileMaker Mobile, however, it is incapable of activating the scanner. I have contacted both Symbol and FileMaker, both understand the problem but don't have any timeframe.
I think it is foolish for anyone developing on the PalmOS to not incorporate scanning into the core features, this module is a great way to catalog and inventory.
If anyone has any ideas or successes with filemaker mobile, please let me know how you managed to do it.
I wonder if it works with PalmBasket.
