-- Improved compression of mp3 announced (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10787)
Just thought that those using the soundsgood or minijam may be interested in this.
Looks like I might be enjoying two hours of different tunes on my soundsgood this summer...

Here's the clincher:
"The question that remains unanswered is whether MP3Pro will include security protocols to protect copyright material. Adding such copy protection would undoubtedly receive cheers from content owners like the major music labels, but it does not serve the wants of the general audience who may eschew any technology that puts restrictions on the music they listen to. An example is the consumer rejection of DVD players using DIVX. Some analysts see the lack of copyright protection measures to be a competitive advantage for the standard MP3 format."
I'd bet it does.. no thanks...
There are several other audion compression formats that people may want to keep an eye on:
VQFs

And Ogg Vorbis
http://www.vorbis.com/
The new MP3 format sounds cool and all, but there is going to be a LOT of competition in the next few months...including the DIVX (MP4) Compression.

Ogg Vorbis rules. Why? Because it's free. Technically you have to pay royalties for use of mp3's.
Plus, Ogg Vorbis sounds better while the file is the same size as an mp3.
