-- BE CONCERNED (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=8311)
Zap,
I've tried leaving my batteries out for about 15 hours
but it didn't cure the problem at all. I will try do it for 48 hours this weekend. I hope to God that does SOMETHING.
And what could have caused the rapid depletion of the batteries? Is this something repairable?
About the "waitstates", should I take it to mean that Visors are no good in hot countries like the Philippines? Darn it, I knew I should have stuck with my PalmIII.
Thanks for your very valuable insights.
Because I did not have the need to do it before,
I am ignorant about the nuances of deleting and reinstalling the Palm desktop software. So please bear
with me
If I delete the Palm desktop from my hard drive and reinstall it later, would my data and preferences still be intact OR will the Backup folder be deleted with the rest of the program as well?
If so, do I need to make a copy of my backup elsewhere in my drive which I can reinstall later?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Re: answer what is true sync
This post really has little bearing in this thread but just to clarify the quoted comments, TrueSync is a program used to sync lots of different apps, services and devices, not just Sidekick and Palm.
For example, it will sync services of Yahoo, Portico and Excite to applications like Palm Desktop, Act, Notes, Organizer, Outlook, MS Schedule to devices like Palm, Windows CE, Cell Phones and Rex. This list is not all inclusive but gives you an idea. You select the apps, devices and services that you want to sync (and you can sync more than one from each category) and it will then sync all at once.

Overclocking and overheating
I did not run any overclocking apps unless the eco-hack did that. I also was operating it outside the other day when it was acting up. We had a cold snap and it was about 58 degrees, so no, it wasn't hot.
I did a hard-reset and removed the batteries for about 1/2 hour and re-synced. During the resyncing I noticed that the Visor showed that the Hackmaster and Eco-hack were being installed again, but they did not show up on the Visor once the installation was done. It hung up on me when I first turned it on for about 1 minute, but no other hangups. I think it may have been looking for alarms and also changing dates on one of my apps.
I think my batteries are drained so quickly because I use Vindigo and AvantGo and am hooked to WindowsNT, so I have to use the serial cradle. My sync time can take 5-10 minutes on a normal day and 20+ minutes if I have to restore everything.
Everybody,
I have learned my lesson. Start-ups, more often than not, mean f***-ups.
I will be buying a Palm IIIc today. Thanks for all your help. I'm sorry that my dalliance with Handpsring had to come to this unceremonious end.
