Question

Found this on EFGI website. They are selling the diagnostic springboard from handspring. I need a dedicated serial port for configuring cisco boxes in the field. Would this do the trick.

Following from EFGI website or see this link http://www.efig.com/SP_products.html

"Welcome Application selects UART usage:
UART can be used for:
Local HotSync
Modem HotSync
Beaming simulation
Debugger Console

All others, or a combination of the above.
Handspring Hand Term Application:
Versatile interface for software development.
Can serve as a dedicated RS232 serial
terminal for Data Acquisition, Thermal
Readings, GPS Location.

16Mbit Flash memory (16-bit wide)
Serial port (16C650 UART)
Green LED connected to GPIO
16-bit register R/W & microphone test.
8-bit register W-only
Red LED on D0."

It looks remarkebly much like the handy GPS...
see:

and

maybe they used the same template springboard...

I wonder if the handy GPS is as thick...

I have both the EFIG and the Handspring Modem; they're the same unit, essentially, except that the EFIG's guts are different.

I have successfully used the EFIG as a terminal emulator (with the built-in terminal app, as well as ptelnet) - using a direct connection (to an RS/6000), an external modem, and even my cellphone (Qualcomm QCP-860; modem built-in).

However, I could NOT use the EFIG board to connect using PalmOS (Prefs > Modem/Network). EFIG referred me to Handspring on the matter. Kinda bummed there.

I'd say it should work just fine for programming routers, assuming the connection is a standard serial port... if you want to make absolute sure, drop an email to EFIG; they seem to be a pretty knowledgeable and helpful bunch.

Question

Can I use this serial port in a seamless fashion with existing apps? I use the N90 Buddy software that works well using the serial connector on the Palm III, but I've had trouble getting this to work with the Visor serial cradle. Was wondering if it would work with the efig serial port. Do I need to change settings somewhere?
