-- Mac USB sync - weird 60 second delay?? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11217)
Hi,
Mac, PB G3 400, 128RAM, OS 9.1
HS Visor Deluxe, USB, Desktop 2.6.1
I have this strange 60 second (always 60!) delay when the message - "Identifying User" appears. Everything on the Mac freezes and after 60 seconds the sync proceeds normally!
If I re-install the HS software, the first time there is NO delay but every subsequent time there is the 60 second timeout!
Any ideas?
I have:
1. Deleted HS prefs
2. Re-installed Desktop
3. Desktop is the latest 2.6.1
4. No other USB devices
5. Allocated 8Mb memory to Hotsync

Hotsync delay
Unfortunately this is an unsolved problem with HotSync. It's to do with how big your backup folder is. If you delete your backup folder, it will proceed quickly again. But it seems the delay is related to checking backed-up files against the files in your Visor's RAM, which takes a really long time for some reason. I have been on the phone quite a bit with Handspring about it, but no solutions for the time being, other than patience.
Wonderful!! thanks it worked
Duplicating the Backup Folder and emptying the original worked! Thanks. I guess I could keep the Backup folder copy incase something causes a problem and then just rename to restore?
Now I only wonder why HS does not post it on the Mac FAQ's??
They should be glad that forums like VC and helpful users like you are around to support "their" customers!

Clarifying...
To clarify: If you have backup turned on, it will still happen after any time you back up. Patience is the only real solution, or not keeping backups (bad idea).
Sorry!
Susan
Yes, if the backup is turned on the delay exists - but I would like to do a backup atleast once and then turn it off.
This way, I then could potentially use Restore to recover in the event of a disaster.
