Apparantly there's a bug in the palm 3.x OS that creates duplicate system shortcuts every time you do a soft reset. If you reset a lot, the shortcuts database can get rather large. There's more info on this problem, as well as a fix here.
This is true in all Palm OS versions prior to OS 3.3, including the PalmOS 3.1h on the Visor.
What happens is that every time you soft reset, there are 3 dot shortcuts that get duplicated. The only problem this causes is that after many resets, it takes a very long time for the Shortcuts screen to come up in Preferences.

JH,
I read the above link and it is a bit sketchy as how to correct the problem using dbscan.
Can you add a little info here regarding running dbscan. Is this something that needs to be run evevy now and again, or is this a one time deal?
Thanks.
Run dbsacn every now and again. It doesn't "fix" anything, it simply cleans up the extraneous shortcuts.

By "soft reset" I presume you mean the power button? Hard reset is the reset hole in the back, right?
Nomenclature: can't live with it, can't live without it.

Wrong. A soft reset is when you use the reset button on the back. A hard reset is when you use the reset button in conjunction with the power button. This erases all of your apps and data and restores the Visor to the condition it was in when it shipped. Occasionally (I've only had this happen once), the Visor will lock up, or just start acting wierd. Doing a soft reset will usually fix this, and it doesn't erase any data or apps.
Thanks for the tip...
I downloaded the fix from the link and installed it on my Vdx. Do I need to do anything else, or does the downloaded (and installed) program automatically run in the background when I hotsync?
To use dbScan, run the app and press the "Cleanup Shortcuts" button as described in the "i" tips screen.
