E&B Slipper vs. Rhinoskin (long post)

I just thought I'd share my adventures in hunting for that elusive perfect case (which I've discovered, doesn't exist). After much research, I decided on the E&B Slipper case. When it arrived, I was fairly pleased with it. It looked snappy, fit the Prism fairly well, had places to store cards or $ in the flip-top, and seemed have fairly decent padding (for a leather slip cover).

Well, on Monday it slipped right off the bathroom sink and onto the floor Actually, I wasn't too concerned because I had dropped my Deluxe a few times, and it had suffered no damage. The difference though was I had my Deluxe in a rubber Bumper case (loved that case, would have gotten one for the Prism, but they don't make them for it). The Prism worked fine throughout the day, but when I went to do a hotsync that evening, it crashed, and then the screen went goofy. I pull it out of my slipper case, and notice a nice crack in my Prism, just to the left of the datebook button.

So after a call to Handspring, and $150 later, they next-day my a replacement (didn't realize how much I've grown dependent upon the Prism...four hours at work without it, and I had notes scattered all over the place and a general 'lost' feeling). I immediately began a search for a case that would offer a little more protection than just a leather slip case. I settled on the RhinoSkin. It just arrived this morning, and I've placed my Prism into it, and feel pretty confident that this case will take some abuse, along with some getting used too. It's boxy, the edges are kind of rough (I'll smooth those when I get home tonight), and it's not the quietest to open and close. On the upside though, I can be pretty rough on my portable electronics, and this case should keep me from having to drop another $150 for a replacement. I'll post back after I've had the RhinoSkin for a few days and let you know how it's working for me.

It's the aluminum slider. The more I handle it, and get used to the action of opening and closing it, the more I'm really beginning to like it. (No pinches yet!) My real concern is that they don't finish the edges of the case, leaving them pretty rough.

After having the Rhino Skin for about a week, I'd have to give it a thumbs-up. It protects my visor wonderfully, and really doesn't add much more (if any) bulk than a leather slip case.

My one reservation about it was the rough edges. A little time and an fingernail file (like your wife or girlfriend probably has laying around), and it smoothed out the edges and corners just fine. Now it really feels nice to handle and to hold.

Sure, it doesn't have any little pockets, and it's a little noisy opening and closing (not too bad), but it protects my Prism from my carelessness, and it looks cool to boot.

I'd pick the EB Slipper over the Rhinoclunk.

When I was at my local PDA store trying out cases, I cut my hand when I handled the Rhinoskin thing.

The EB Slipper for my Prism is great. Able to Hotsync from the case directly... has 1 card slot and a small side pocket.

I don't think I want to drop my Visor in the Rhinoskin. God knows what will happen. I dropped my Vx once in a hardcase and one of the buttons went flat. So... no more hardcases for me, ever again.

I also have a Vaja Prism. The leather at the abck is rather thin. But mine's a belt-clip version, so no problemo
