Question What's the best GPS Route Planner for use in Europe?

Just got a Magellan GPS unit for my Visor Pro.

But I'm totally confused about what GPS Route Planner/Maps to buy for use in the UNITED KINGDOM and EUROPE.

Anyone using Magellan GPS in the UK or Europe?

Can you recommend good software?

Are you having any problems using your Magellan module - particularly in the car?

I have not used any European maps myself, but check this web site for maps:

Magellan Companion works well in my car, but I have to hold or mount it near a window.

When turned on, it will acquire a fix faster if you don't move until you have a fix.

:-) Thanks Jaws01 - a useful site. I need to find something to stick my Visor Pro (in its "Active Armor" case) to the car window.

Anyone out there actually used the Magellan GPS with their Visor in the UK and Europe?

Have you found any map software that combines good road detail with public transport detail (i.e. railway, underground stations, rivers, etc.)? Yeah, I want it all.

I either seem to be driving down country lanes or looking for the nearest London Underground station.

You can try the map software at www.tomtom.com

My Magellan GPS Companion works the same in Hungary (and Europe) as it did in the US - no difference. I use PathAway 2.0 and raster maps from MapBlast (they are free and contain information that helps calibration). They have accurate street/country level details of the European Union. A possible disadvantage is that you have to create your maps using a PC and transfer them to your Visor.

Wink european

I live in Europe and use everyday Tom Tom citymaps together with routeplanner.
Excellent, but you will not find any bus, metro or railwaystation on it. You do however see railroads on it.
