Prism's Battery Replacement......Done!!!

As referred to my yesterday's post, I changed the job back to the guy who had previously done the 16MB upgrade and enhanced volume for my Visor Prism. He'd successfully taken the charging circuit out of my original battery and connected it to my new 1800mAh Lithium-ion rechargable battery and......it works! Seems like this kind of high-capacity battery is much suitable for the power-eater Prism that the original 1500mAh battery either from the manufacturer, GetHighTech.com, LaptopsforLess.com, psaparts.com or PDAConcept..., etc. Hope this message will be helpful to every Prism's user who's looking for solution to enhancing the life of his machine!

So are you able to use the same charger for the new battery and get all 1800 mAH out of it?

Yes, just finished a charge with the original charger two hours ago, the green light signal is functioning as the same as that of charging an original battery and the charging time was as usual. By reading e-book for one and a half hour, the battery fell down to 92%. Hope this would be helpful to those companies selling replacement battery, at least they can provide more choices for the customers.

sorry, reading e-book for an hour, not one and a half hour, not sure how much power will be gained from this new battery, needs some times to go with.

Thumbs up Glad to hear it works!

That's amazing, I wish I had tried that in the first place. it might have saved me some cash!
I'm wondering if you could provide more detail about what you have running on your Prism, say screen brightness, hacks , wether you're using external memory etc. so I can compare these stats realistically with the performance of my replacement battery. Thanks.

Bill

Does anybody know what would be the cause of Visor Prism's shutting down at no battery status without low battery warnings coming out? My Prism shuts down at battery indicator of about 51-2% (current voltage around 3.7...V, far higher than the warning voltage, that's why no warnings?) without any warnings, charge it, it works again and shuts down at the above mention battery level again. I thought it was a bad battery so I'd changed an own-made battery for it and it's running properly (with low battery warnings coming out) after the FIRST charge. Unfortunately, it happens again after second charge on the battery. I don't know whether it's a faulty Prism's motherboard (does it have any power control?...though I don't think so), a damaged power management control board attached on the new battery or even the new Panasonic battery. Besides, does anybody know about the specification of the power management control board and whether it's possible to make an own one for the Prism?

1. Back up your data
2. Do a hard reset
3. Test and see if the problem persists with no external programs or files on your handheld.

I don't really think an external program would do this, but if your were ever hacking around with the "Grafitti character commands" and changed the "type" of battery that you handheld has I can see it causing a problem like this.

Check the "Faq" section of this site, I think it has the Grafitti command that changes the battery type between Li-Ion, NIMH and alkaline. This setting changes how your unit reacts to voltage.

To TDSComputer:
Problem has been solved by an email from Handspring. Anyhow, Thanks!

To gooselab: Quite a lot of programs has been installed into my Prism, default brightness setting (guess about 70%), it can run almost 6 hours before the first low battery warning coming out (warning level: 3.65V), not bad...I think.

Because of technological improvement, I think more high-capacity and slim battery will be on the market sooner or later, maybe I'll be able to change a 2400mAh (or even higher) battery next time providing my Prism's still alive. ^_^

So what was the solution?

Question Prism Battery Availability

Anybody know where exactly I can purchase a better battery for the Visor Prism? I'd appreciate any info.

Bump - Want to know if this battery replacement ever worked? If so - where can we get the battery? My Prism's battery seems to be going south on me

Yeah, I was still waiting too. Any news?

I did it myself with the $49 1500mAH from Laptopsforless.com

I replaced my Prism battery about a year ago with the $49 1500mAH from Laptopsforless.com. I seem to get much better battery life now. I am a heavy user and even listen to music with my minijam on it. I just leave it in the charger each night and never get a low battery warning.

Thanks. Once the batteries get bad enough I will spring for a new battery.
