boy do I feel dopey.

Well, I agree that 1/1/01 is when the new millennium really started, but maybe you shoud try changing the time back to the end of 1999 to see if you get the fireworks.

What happened to the "posts counter"?

Bu the way, has anyone noticed that the little counter that tells how many posts you've made to this forum has stopped working? Scroll up the side and see how rarely it gets updated. See if this still lists this as my 49th post.

Sorry - 50th

Sorry - that was the 8th lisiting of my 50th post.

Posted by eboychik on 07-17-2001 12:57 PM:

Huh?

Every post of mine on this topic had said 49, then they all read 50,and now they all read 51. Will this post change them all to 52?

davecombs said,

Did any of you have your Visors on as we crossed into the new year in January? Got my first one last Xmas, so I had the chance to do this.

so I'd have thought it would have been any new year. Which also makes more sense, what's the point of a surprise that happens only once in the entire operating life of a device? (I mean an intentional one, not a horrific crash or something.)
But, I tried 1999 just now and still nothing happened.
Perhaps davecombs WAS seeing things. or Visor's not easily fooled.

(moments later)
and your posts now say 52, if that helps.
it's supposed to update all your posts to refelct your current post # and other current profile information (like avatar or signature ... that avatar of mine didn't happen overnight!)

I'm wondering if davecombs mistook the effects of the bubbles in the champaigne for fireworks in his visor

I dunno... if I saw fireworks shooting out of my Visor's screen, I would think it was time to call Handspring support and ask for a replacement...

Posted by davecombs on 07-19-2001 06:56 AM:

Dang it! I also took a chance and asked Handspring tech support; they gave the usual "Must be a 3rd party app, check out PalmGear..." answer.

I know my Visor did this! We were nowhere near the expiration date on that juice. Maybe a hack or even the OS updater is keeping it from showing up. I'll have to dump everything into my backup module and do a hard reset. I'll keep you posted, if anyone cares.

PS to CaptainCaveman: I got nicknamed that at Cross Country camp in high school. Small planet, no?

It could take a specific amount of time to work up to it. I.e., setting the date to 12-31-?? and the time to 11:59 won't cut it.

I've just put an alarm in my datebook to remind me at 11:30 on 12/31 so maybe I'll see it next time. (Not that it helps anyone right now.)

The fireworks

Didn't someone post this before? I think it was "bigclock" or some such 3rd party app doing the fireworks.

Yep!

http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...;threadid=11872

It seems to be a Prism/BigClock specific thing.

Fireworks

I tried it on my VDX and I was able to reproduce the fireworks. Not all that spectacular but it was pretty neat. One thing I found is that you have to have BigClock open when the clock strikes 12.

SALVATION!

And a bottle of sparkling grape juice to volcanopele. I knew I wasn't seeing things - and now that I really tink about it, I probably did have BigClock running and I just couldn't remember.

BEAR DOWN!
