-- What is that screen material? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11320)
I've stroked screens from the Palm Pilot to the Vx. The Palm screens are, without a doubt, hard glass. But stroke the prism. Feels almost organic. Hold the Prism at the right angle away from your eye, and slowly depress your stylus on the screen and it depresses. Palm IIIc does the same. What is that covering (it's very durable and cleans unlike ANY plastic I slipped into the Palm screens for protection)? What is the material? And is THAT what Handspring replaces when Prism's are returned for screen maintenance?
So:
1. What's the material?
2. How easy is it to replace? (Or IS it easy to replace?)
It's the touchscreen
That's the touchscreen. It is a thin piece of plastic that is conductive on the back side. The glass is underneath it. There is either a thin layer of gell or microscopic beads between them to keep them apart except where you press with the sylus.
ALL the Palm units, Visors, TRGs, Sonys, etc.. have them. They are NOT screen protection. You have to add that yourself.
My wife and I both got our Prisms at the same time. I had some protector screens I bought for my old Palm (couple of months ago) and she wanted to put one on her Prism -- and it looks awfull. Does anyone know of any screen covers that won't severly deteriorate the quality of the picture?
thanks - dave
Dave, try 4 mil vinyl from a fabric shop, search for a template to cut it to fit. Try a search of this site for screen protection.

They are supposable the same as the ones for the Palm III et.al. except they do not have the level of texturing. From Concept Kitchen's site:

Reason I'm asking is because I have a screen protector ONLY on the Grafitti portion of my Prism. That allows me to see the Prism screen VERY clearly. Even the clear, non-textured screen protectors degraded the Prism images somewhat. So, I like leaving the screen exposed. It seems really durable. With a cotton cloth or lens cleaner, the screen cleans nicely. But I've never seen a clear plastic that is able to handle that kind of "wiping" all the time without SOME scratches appearing eventually. So, what kind of plastic is it that is so durable?
