I still haven't decided if I will upgrade my VDX to a Platinum or Prism. Im all for progress, but I've only had the thing for 11 months. The appeal to upgrade is very strong for us gadget freaks. I am leaning on holding off on a new unit and see what unfolds in the next 6 months. However, I would like to purchase some springboard modules. GPS, mp3 and a wireless modem. Which brings me to my dilemma. Im afraid that a new model will be released that will not work with the current springboard modules. I can upgrade my PDA every 18 to 24 months, but not the modules. I sure hope the springboard slot remains unchanged. Just throwing this out there. I guess I need someone to say, it's alright Fleabag, go ahead, every thing will be just fine. Go buy that module...

While much has been made of the "open-source" nature of the springboard design and Handspring's in-ability to control the software requirements of third party modules, Handspring would be hard pressed to justify any lack of backward compatibility of new units. At the very least I would envision an adapter similar to the one that Sega shipped to allow master system games to work on the Genesis.

So go ahead and upgrade to the Platinum, get your omnisky and geode, and fear not. All is well in the world for now.

The springboards are upgradeable thru their flash rom. I have upgraded the MiniJam to work with my Prism with no problem. The only problems I had was with the eyemodule and the first patch that was put out screwed it up royally. It was replaced.
