Battery charge question and general complaints

Well I finally broke down and bought an edge yesterday. I really wanted the Palm M505 for the combo of color and form factor, but in the end I couldn't pay $140 mor for the color.

I have a question on recharching the battery... should I disconnect the power supply to the hotsync after I have reached full charge and run down the battery until the recharge message comes up? Or should I let it get a partial charge every time I hotsync? will this (the latter) reduce the battery life?

Overall I am not as happy with the edge as I thought I might be. The buttons stink-- particularly the power button. They are too hard to press. And I don't know what all the hubbub about having a more readable screen was all about. I think it is harder to read its screen as it seems like a darker background than the green. The stylus wouldn't be all that bad if it was flattened in the other direction -- it keeps rotating to a 90 degree position on me. Finally, my Omniremote program is darn near useless now as I had a six foot IR range on my Vdx and it is now about 2.5 feet. Sigh.

I do enjoy the form and the speed though...

Thanks in advance for your help on the batteries.

No requirement to drain down the batteries before charging like the old NiCaD's. These are Lithium Ion, it is ok to just top them off. In fact preferable.

I don't want to start a debate about battery specs but everywhere I've read says that Lithium Ion batteries improve over time if you keep the battery charged up. If you drain it dry all the time, that reduces battery performance.

So keep the AC adapter plugged in and keep your edge in the cradle whenever possible.

Hmmmm...that might explain why I seemed to get less out of my Edge last month, it was only in the cradle to HotSync, and for a couple of top offs. And I maybe only synced a dozen times last month. I'll have to try dropping it in the cradle overnite, instead of leaving it in my purse. The HS Backup Module makes it easy to forget about syncing, unless I want to install some new software.

Another perception that can happen is thinking you are getting less and less battery life becuase of time between charges. When the reality can be, you are using the PDA more and more in daily life. This is true in my case.

Don't mess with my fantasy! I need to belive that I'm not a GeekGirl! (Evidence to the contrary notwithstanding!)

Get the runtime utility.. That'll settle any doubt you have in your head. I actually found that my pda usage dropped off from 2 hours a day to 1.5 hours to 1... and eventually plateau'd
