Files Onto Memplug
Hopefully, this is something simple that I'm just missing. Forest-for-the-trees-type thing.
I just got a SM MemPlug. I don't have a digital camera that uses SM. I have several digital images on my hard drive. How do I get these into my Pro, so I can make a library of these on an SM card? Through the palm install program, I can only load palm-supported files, and GIFs and JPGs won't load.
And based on the answer to that, is it the same for loading other things onto the SM card? I can't seem to get non-palm files onto the Pro...
Thanks in advance...
Re: Files Onto Memplug
The best thing to use is those SM Reader/Writer that plug into your USB. It cost around $20-$30. I have the USB Combo Reader that has the CompactFlash, SM, amd MMC/SD.

I would agree that the best way to get non-palm files on the SM is a card reader, but in case you want to use the photo library on SM primarily for viewing on your visor, you may want to consider software like SplashPhoto or Fireviewer. I find that when I just plug the SM card from my camera into my memplug to view photos using the built-in viewer, the quality is not nearly as good as those I've loaded with SplashPhoto. I think that fireviewer allows you to view jpg and other file types, but I don't know if the conversion keeps that format.
More questions on Memplug
I have a question about the memplug which I'm considering purchasing. If there's a prc file that's 9mb (say a dictionary) and my prism is 8mb is there anyway to get that file on the memplug? I'm guessing the answer is that I must have a card reader. If true then there's a big advantage of getting the Pro with 16mb, so there's more room on the unit available to get larger files to the Memplug. Especially since I don't own a reader and would have to tack on the price of buying one. My second question is if I back up all of my prism onto the backup program on the Memplug and my prism breaks and I try to resore all to a new non-prism unit (maybe a upcoming model, perhaps with a newer O.S.) - do you think the restoration will go smoothly? Does anyone know if there are 256mb SM cards on the horizon?
