What happen to Navicom. Their website said we can order at the end of April. But where is HandyGPS? This module is on the top of my wishlist. Anyone have any inside information???

This is terrible -- definitely not my idea of an April fool. Slipping past your release dates is one thing. Giving no advance notice of that slippage (or explanation, or apology) is just unprofessional. A lot of things about manufacturing are beyond a companies control (component shortages, etc.) but public relations is not one of them. In the very likely event that they won't be taking orders tomorrow, Navicom could spare themselves a lot of outraged customers by simply levelling with us about what's going on. How about it, Navicom?

How about contacting someone at Navicom at ask them what is really going on? Let us all know the response if you get one.

So far I've sent two e-mails to Navicom, one on the 25th of April and one on the 29th. So far they have not replied to either. I'm beginning to wonder if they're even a real company or not .

I send a e-mail to Navicom on 4/30/2000, hasn't get a response yet. Since the new release day might be in next year (looks like it ), they might be able to add some flash memory on to that module. This way, mapping software and Map won't take up any of 8Meg in my IVDx. Then again, they would delay release day to 2001.

Did any of you try going to nexians site. I think that there may have been a fallout between Marcosoft and Navicom, as Nexian is Navicom's subsidiary. They say they will have maps available in May of 2000 (hello, this is May already!)

Don't know what to make of this, is this Handy GPS real or not real.

I most heartily agree!

I've already spoken to someone from Geodiscovery on the phone - and they're very nice. I don't care at this point if the HandyGPS came out tomorrow - with all the misinformation about their release date and their complete lack of customer response - I don't trust Navicom at all.

Think about it this way - even if Nexian/Navicom came out with the HandyGPS tomorrow do you think they'd be at all reliable for technical support and post-sales customer service with their current track record?

I think not.

So, my vote is very firmly with these newcomers. Besides, if you look at the specs for the device - it sounds really wonderful and worth the $250.00 - 64MB of RAM in the module! I bet that you'll be able to store at least the whole eastern seaboard's maps in it.

Does anyone know whether GeoDiscovery include 64MB MMC for the $250 price tag?
If not, $250 is just a bit too expensive for me. I have give up hope for HandyGPS. I'm also waiting for more news for the new GSM/GPS unit.

And If you look at the picture for GeoDiscover, the Module is a lot bigger than HandyGPS. It got a big antenna stick out on the top.

It may be a bigger and more expensive unit than Navicom's, but I would get it over Navicom's for the following reasons:

1) I've had it up to here with Navicom and their lack of respect for the consumer.
2) Geo's unit has more features, e.g. built-in digital compass, WAAS, 2 memory card slots, etc.
3) If Navicom's empty promises says anything about their support, you'd have better luck with the psychic friends network if you had a problem.
4) Geo is a welcomed sight for sore eyes.
5) Just plain and simple....I'm sick and tired of Navicom's smoke and mirrors.
