I have PalmPrint installed, so I can print when I come accross an IrDA compliant printer. My question is this - what is available to make a printer IrDA compliant? I have only found 2 products - JetEye printer and the Actisys IR100M. Surely there must be some other options. Does anyone have any ideas?

What exactly are you trying to print? I played with dragging memo entries into Word via the desktop the other night for the first time -- it was incredibly simple and effective...

I'm a nurse practitioner in an orthopaedic office. I have software installed called PatientKeeper that allows me to enter masses of data with a minimum of taps, and then IR print the data in a variety of forms so that they can be placed on the patient's chart. I don't sync my visor with any of the machines in the clinic where I work (I have an office machine elsewhere). It took an act of congress, my firstborn, and the pound of flesh nearest my heart just to get my IS department to allow me to install my PalmOS drivers on my desktop. I'm not going through that again. So all I want is a (cheap) way to make my printer IrDA compatible.

This may all be moot anyway. If the IS department finds out I've added a dongle to some of their precious hardware, it may be all over anyway.

I am using a similar program in my medical practice called patientracker. I bought a HP Portable Ir -printer for $269.

I tried asking IS about getting an IR printer - their repy: "this facitility does not support IR printing at this time." When I asked them about the HP2100 I found in one department, I was told that it was bought by another department to go with a specific piece of equipment, and was not supported by IS. They won't buy an IR printer, and they won't allow anyone to attach anything to their hardware, because if it gets out that one person can IR print, then everyone will want one, and then they'll have to support IR printing. Man - that almost sounds recursive.

Sounds like an IS department that needs to wake up and embrace this new technology arena . Luckily, I work for a smaller company (less than 50 users) that isn't afraid of trying new technologies that would make our collective lives easier. I can, however, understand a reluctance when we're talking about hundreds or thousands of workers needing support.
