We need a module that does three things: 1.) Has a laser distance finder for measuring things like the distance between two walls, and 2.)Software that will calc the dims you take and give square feet and cubic feet, and 3.) Same software needs to have a dimension calculator for those things measured by hand. It must allow entry in fractional (3/8", etc..) form. These animals already exist in separate units, it just needs to be adopted to the Springboard. Construction and design folks will go ape!

Would it be better still if it incorporated an electronic level (like on those electronic devices which are replacing spirit levels?). You would know that the distances you were getting were absolutely "plumb" or "level," which might increase accuracy somewhat.
With an add-on straightedge (our feet or so) you could also figure roof pitches, stair pitches, slope gradients (roads, drainage, etc).

Great idea. I couldn't agree more!

I like the laser range finder! But if your going to build a builder's dream springboard, you have to include a studfinder (which can determine wood from steel); a voltmeter; natural gas sniffer; and last but not least - pneumatic nail gun.

Kidding aside, I don't why the first three couldn't be done.
