-- Outlook / Visor questions (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=573)
Questions from the "newbie patiently waiting for his VDx":
Has anyone synched info back and forth from Outlook to their Palm/Visor? Does it switch back and forth in the same format, or do you have to "fiddle" with the entries?
Which folders -- Contacts, Tasks, Notes, Calendar, etc -- transfer over from OL to Palm? Is it a pretty seamless operation, or do you just import/export as notes, then move them to the applicable OL folder?
The reason I ask is that I'll need to synch two OL's (home and work) and I'm wondering how much extra work will go into these evolutions.
TIA,
Chuck
I am also a first time PDA owner (The Visor is great), and have therefore never had to learn how to set up Outlook syncing. It was surprisingly easy - no fiddling or twiddling involved. I just installed the Palm Desktop software that my Visor shipped with, and viola! Email on my Visor! It doesn't, however, sync the calendar or contacts or any of the other folders. The Palm Desktop software has its own contacts and calendar programs, which will sync up with the programs on the Visor. Something else you should know about the Visor is that it comes with two calendar programs - one is called Date Book, and the other is Date Book +, which as you can guess by the name, has a few extra features - most notably some different ways of viewing your schedule. The Palm Desktop calendar will sync with either program. Hope that helps!
The Visor will sync those folders, but for some reason I had to turn that on. Right-click on the HotSync icon and choose custom. Click settings, and make sure that everything that says Outlook says Synchronize. You also may need to set that as the default.

The Outloook conduits are in a program called pocketmirror located on the Visor cd. Depending on the way you install the palm software it might not ask you wheather you would like to sync to outlook or the palm software. In any case the directory of the pocketmirror software is
(d
almsfw/disk1/pocketmirro/setup.exe) this should start the install and set up the hotsync to run with outlook.
How about selectively hot syncing with a program? I don't want to use Outlook on my computer (resource hog) but would like to sync my email and snail mail addresses/telephone numbers from Outlook Express. I think I can use the palm desktop software for to do items, etc. Will this work?

You can select your email conduit without too much difficutly during initial setup. Becareful not to choose Outlook instead of Outlook Express.
Some people have claimed problems with Outlook Express if they are using Windows 2000 but that's why they are called beta testers.
The only problem I've found with Outlook 98 is not being able to sync to subfolders contained with in the Address folder. The only way I know a "work around" is to purchase In Sync and then you can supposedly sync to subfolders.
Also, for those of you who might be wondering, in the Outlook Contact folders, if you use the notes field located under the general tab of a detailed address field or card, these notes will show up as an attached note within the Visor/Palm address.
This is a great way to have one corporate address with multiple contacts and voice mail extensions listed underneath that corporate address.
Hope this helps!
Next week an update on how well the Visor will sync with Act 2000 and Symantec's Palm Link. I am transitioning from Outlook to Act 2000 and will let anyone know that interested.

I know that you have gotten plenty of responses and so it would be a little pointless for me to repeat all this stuff for you. I would just like to tell you that indeed they are correct andright. I hope maybe sometime in the future I can help you a little more......
Hmmm....Why does Moose seem to know so much. :<
Dev,
It's coz of trial and error and 15+ years of beta testing stuff!
If I'm wrong on providing information...I'd like to know because I'm also providing lots of it to about 150 other people with in our company's salesforce.
