-- Bluetooth Springboard (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=8430)
I have just received my Bluetooth Springboard module.
Does anyone have any information about setup/programming it? Is there an API? I am particularily interested in the supported profiles. Any comments are welcome.

Uhh...where did you get a Bluetooth Springboard module? I didn't think they were going to be available until around the December timeframe. If this is a beta unit, then you might want to talk to the manufacturer. They probably wouldn't want it discussed in an open forum like this. Who is the manufacturer, and do you have a pic or two of it?

simple question
What is required to utilize a bluetooth wireless network? Say I get a bluetooth adapter for my Visor and I also get a PC card for my laptop. Is that all I need to get those two devices to communicate with each other? Furthermore, say my laptop is hooked up to a (wired) Ethernet or cable modem. Can I leave it hooked up on my desk, and surf the web via my Visor (with this current configuration)?
You need a Bluetooth module for the Visor and a Bluetooth PC Card for your Laptop. Thats it.
You can synchronize your Visor an surf the Web via Bluetooth.

Who makes the thing?
I'll ask also: Who makes this Bluetooth Springboard module?
This is something I'm interested in. Please state who and where you got this from.
There are no official releases of Bluetooth modules for teh Visor. The only two announced ones are from Widecomm and Xircom, so unless you got a beta unit of one of these then there is no way to get Bluetooth on the Visor.
Virigilo, the beauty of Bluetooth (and downfall) is that when a device come in range of another Bluetooth device, they automatically connect. Virtually no setup required.

How much?
Forgot to ask, but I guess it's an important question. I know that Toshiba sells bluetooth PC cards for $199, but much will the Visor module cost?
I e-mailed Widcomm about two weeks ago asking about their SDK for Bluetooth and the Visor. They quoted me $5k for it.
$5k seems to be the going price for a Bluetooth development kit. This is what Erichsen (one of the companies involved in Bluetooth) charges. There is a cheaper Bluetooth developement system available but it is not a Springboard. This system has USB and serial ports available. It claims it is far cheaper (sorry I don't know the price) because it does not implement any of the esoteric / "seldom used" features of Bluetooth.
I also noticed that the availability of Widcomm's Springboard Bluetooth is now in 2001.
Has anyone contacted Xircom to talk about their Springboard Bluetooth and the cost of getting software to develop applications for it?
Marc
