best monochrome display?

Hello all... I currently own and love a Visor Deluxe. I've been thinking lately about upgrading before all the decent Visors are gone.

I want to stick with monochrome, because I think the viewability is best. But, I am wondering if any of the monochrome Visors have a better display than the Deluxe. Do any of them have a gray screen (without the greenish hue), or a better (stronger) backlight?

Basically, I want to stick with the same basic screen, but if it was slightly better, that would be great. I know the HandEra has a spiffy monochrome screen, but I don't want to spent $300...

The Tops is the Neo ... without question.

Started with a Deluxe a couple of years ago and was happy with it. Screen was better than any other Palm monochrome device.

Then came the Platinum with a newer operating system. Faster than Deluxe but same screen.

The Neo ... ahhh! Have been using 2 Neos for about a year. The screen is definitely the best, bar none!

Deluxes and Plats do a good job. Neo does a great job.

Thanks for the tip! Can you be any more specific about the neo screen?

What exactly is better? Does it get rid of that greenish hue of the screen? Is the backlight better?

Neo and Edge--
Sharp and with a great backlight--Still green--especially with the backlight on--
but more of a grey without the backlight--

While the Deluxe and the Plat have good screens, the Neo is a noticeable difference - sharper, crisper. I've tried side by side comparisons and the Neo is definitely better.

The screen is green, but the black text on green really works well.

Palms have a muddy goldish-orange screen that is most unpleasant in addition to being smaller screen size.

And Sony - forget it for reading. The high res makes the print very small on the already small screen.

And, as for color, in addition to price and having to bump up (down) to rechargeable batteries, I found reading to be difficult on a color (Prism) screen. And, I know there are many who disagree with that ... but, what remains, is a whole slew of folks who would hate to have to read on anything but a Neo.

As for the backlight, except to view Big Clock in the middle of the night (not often), I really don't use it.

Here's a curious thing ...

While I'm no technician or engineer, I do have an idea that perhaps the case and screen materials used for the Neo are different from the Plat and Deluxe.

We know the case is definitely different. Quite a few comments about the slick plastic, "shows fingerprints" cases. However...

Here's a curious thing ... I mentioned (above) a side-by-side comparison of a Plat and Neo with Neo's clearer screen. I also did a side-by-side comparison of a Smoke Neo and a Blue Neo and the Blue Neo is my choice.

Why? Not sure, except perhaps the darker blue border/case presents a nice frame for a page of text.

I have both a Blue Neo and a Smoke Neo and, though the Smoke is the newer of the two, I decided to make it my back-up and continue using Blue. I'll also just continue to use my designated "special eyeglass/screen/case cleaning" cloth and enjoy wiping the blue case!

Re: Sony - all I can say is, as soon as I installed CSpotRun on an SJ20 and opened a book I knew my eyes weren't up to it.

As for reading light, I try to make it a practice to use my book reading device the same way I would a paper book - avoid eyestrain by reading in good light - kind of old fashioned, I guess.
