Moving from VDx to Prism

OK, just picked up a new (not refurb) Prism (sealed in box) on Ebay for $220.

After scanning through some of the threads here, it sounds like all I need to do is simply HotSync my new Prism with my existing desktop (using the same UserName), and all my apps and data will be installed in the Prism.

Is that right? I don't have the Backup module, and even though I'll have to get the color versions of a lot of my apps, I'd rather not have to go through all my apps one by one to install them.

TIA

Ed

Lightbulb Prism

Hey,

Yes that should work. Also before you upgrade make sure that you use filez on your VDX go to menu and turn backup bit on. This will make sure that all of the files from your VDX are backed up. Then you are ready to sync your prism with the desktop. Make sure that there are no upgrade files in the backup directory because they may make your Prism into a greyscale device. It happened to me. I had to do a hard reset in order to get it back whew...

You bassically bought a brick.

Did they tell you when you made your purchase that.
The prism is not upgradable behond it's current Operating System.

EG/IE:
It would have been like buying a machine with windows 9X on it a year ago and now you are unable to format it.

You may want to take a second and think more about your purchase.

Angry a Brick??

I just upgraded to a Prism from a Deluxe.
For the price its a great deal. I use my device much more often then ever before. So what about the operating system, the Treo are coming out with 3.5.
The software is out there for most of us to do whatever we really need now. Sure, its fun to have the latest and greatest thing, but how many people really want to pay for it.

I say " Enjoy your new brick, its a heck of deal"!!

Unless I'm mistaken, there isn't a single model in the Visor line which *is* upgradeable beyond its built-in OS.

Besides, it's only a brick if you can't use it.
I have old computers around which if I wanted to use them, I could. I don't want to use them, but since they work they're not bricks.
(Although, I do have a brick which could use a Windows. I've been gearing up my throwin' arm.)

Well I apologize then.

Sorry man didn't mean to call your PDA a brick.
Best of Luck with your new purchase

I have had a Prism for APRX. 2 years and have enjoyed every minute.

A good Tip.
Use allot of compression apps , They help allot.

Envicon.com 's Combiner is a good start.
FlyZip XR Is another. - ( Wich just released a new version I might add )
