Question What is pSysLaunchDB

I have recently (after lots of effort) started synching my Visor Edge to my office desktop remotely using infrared to my Nokia mobile. Typically it takes 6.5 minutes to synch.

I decided to investigate what items were taking the most time and so switched of synching for all conduits with the intention of switching them on one by one.

With all conduits switched off it still takes 5 minutes to synch 'nothing'. The most significant item appears to be pSysLaunchDB. I haven't the foggiest idea what this is or what application it belongs to. I can't delete it from my Visor as it doesn't appear in the list.

Is it just part of the Visor operating system and an overhead I'm stuck with?

Thanks in Advance

David

Are you using any third party(not handspring) IR software for IR sync with your cell phone

Unhappy

Nope - everything just as it was out of the box.

Does anybody else see this file being synched. When I synch using the docking station it still flashes past but for a fraction of a second.

I also have this file being synced. Do you have MegaLauncher installed? The only thing I can think of is that it is the call from MegaLauncher to the Palm SYStem program LAUNCHer. I could be wrong though?

Arrow Launcher III

I have it too on my Pro with Launcher III 3.0.5. I don't remember seeing it before Launcher III, but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure it's part of the built in application launcher. I'm not sure if 3rd party app launchers use it too. I'm also not sure why it seems to be taking so long to sync. I suspect you could delete it with Filez or another 3rd party file manager but I'm not sure that would be a good idea.

First of all the connection is slow IR to call phone and to your computer. You can try one thing Hard reset you visor (first hotsync with you computer). If you do not have any third party apps remove you back up folder (c:\program files\Handspring or palm\<user name> ). Change conduit to desktop over writes handheld and hotsync sync. That will fix if this Palm OS DB.

It wouldn't be a great idea to delete psysLaunchDB. It's the DB for the built-in launcher (your categories and stuff). Look at some of your built-in programs' database Creator IDs--they're probably all "psys" (Palm System?). I see it when I HotSync my m125, but don't remember seeing it when I HotSync'd my VDx, so maybe it's a "Palm OS 3.5 and up thing."

PsylaunchDB is present on my Plat and I have never used Launcher III.

As stated earlier, according to Creator Palm ID database it is "Palm system software" described as "SysResource.h". I suspect bad things would happen if you deleted it.

Thanks to all for your feedback. It sounds like it is likely to be part of the operating system so I don't think I'll delete it.

I'll try the hard reset option though, just in case something isn't quite right.

Perhaps this file only gets synch if I change certain setting on my Visor (e..g. like the conduit synch settings).

If I find out any more I'll report back.

Thanks again

David
