-- Need a Utility Belt? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3407)

Question

So I'm now officially hooked on my BVDx and my Nokia 6190 phone. I also carry an alpha pager, my wallet, and a fat old ring of keys. I'm an IT Manager. I love all the toys but with them all arrayed on my belt I look like freakin Batman. Stuffing all into my pockets begins to give me that baggy cargo pants look which is not what I'm into. We're business casual at the office so I'm not in a suit or anything. Usually wear dockers.

So, do I need a utility belt? Or a man-purse? How do wield all my gadgets without looking like a geek? (Not that there's anything _wrong_ with that. I AM a geek... I just don't wanna look like one right now.) Do I just need to wait until wearable computers are fashionable?

I did see one case, RhinoPak 3000 which has potential. Carrys a PDA, mobile phone, and has webbing for creditcards and stuff. But I dunno... might be too bulky. And another Wish I have is to be able to whip this thing out at a moments notice. Looks like with this Pak you'd have to unsling it, open it, dig out the PDA, then start using it. In a way I _do_ want a simple beltclip thingie that let's me just whip it out. Right now I carry it in my pants pocket (the one without my keys in it!) and that's pretty convenient... except I completely lose use of that pocket for other stuff. <sigh>

Anyway, any fashion-conscious PDA users out there have a solution?

I'd say go with the 3000...Looks like the size of a large dayplanner and is a lot less geeky than looking like Batman!

I'm in the same boat.
The one that I'm looking at is the BurroPak from Landware...

Talking

HAHAHAHAHA

I am laughing histerically at Robert1's Batman comment. In fact, I have earned the nickname "Batman" from my friends for my utility belt look. Alas, I don't know what to do. My belt currently carries:

1) Motorola StarTac Cellphone
2) Visor in The Pouch (www.thepouch.com)
3) Rio MP3 Player
4) Victoronox Multitool (I'm a EE so I need it)

Nothing fits in the pockets as I have my wallet in one (and I've got the George Costanza receipt and random bits of paper wallet going for me), and my keys in the other.

I actually bought a nice belt for clipping things to from Lands End (www.landsend.com). Their standard belt is nice and wide for most clip-type accessories. It does not defeat the "geek" look however.

However, I do wear a trenchcoat almost everywhere which covers all the toysss..err... essential business tools. When I need them, I can just throw open my coat and whip it out like Keanu Reeves in the Matrix .

So my next step is either a police utility belt or--????. When I get my Innogear MP3 player, that'll clear up a bit of it.

Oh well.... just know you're not alone.

And it's NOT a man purse--IT'S EUROPEAN!!!

"Holy gadgets, Batman..."

Forget the utility belts and the purses... what we need is THE killer Springboard that makes all the other gadgets obsolete!!!

Perhaps Alfred and Batgirl can help us out?!?!?

LOL at the Keanu in Matrix line (my current fave film). I can just SEE that!

I found a guy at work who carries a purse and he immediately corrected me and said "European". Whatever! :-) I just don't see me doing that.

I too hope that someday my Visor can be used for phone and pager. That will clean things up nicely!

Haha. Get a load of this review of the BurroPak. Uh-uh. Not for me either.

Definitely has The Matrix appeal though. It's like a shoulder holster for your Visor. Whip it out -- bang bang!

scroll down and check the Geek wearing it. I can just SEE me wearing that at the office. Not. <sigh>

Silly? Oh, I dunno. I'm considering purchasing one.
Of course, I habitually wear black T-Shirts, so for my use the pack will sort of blend in.

You might want to check this site out- EXTENSIVE reviews of cases. http://.fredlet.com/palm/cases/casefr.htm - you might be able to find something thats not too ... European.

Funny, here we have been discussing that maybe we need a little grocery cart like the homeless guys have.
Visor,
Star-Tac,
Alpha pager,
Securtity Badge,
Wallet,
Toolkit,
Keys for Computer cabinet.

Wait a minute here... all these gadgets are supposed to simplify our lives, and we all seem to be consumed by the search for the ideal "package" to carry everything in.

Will we ever have time to play with our t ys???

There is an old bromide which states:
Everything in the universe is packaging, big toys, or meat.

I got my BurroPak from Landsoft, and it's kind of nice. Of course it fit better once I realized that the clips were in the incorrect sockets.

It sits my Visor snugly in front of my left forearm, out of the way. And since I wear black T-Shirts, it isn't really noticeable. As a matter of fact, I had to point out to my wife and my mother in law that I was wearing it, they didn't notice.

It has two partitions inside, one for the Visor and the other for a cell phone or wallet. For now I'm leaving the other partition empty, as I don't want it to bulge excessively.

For all you startac owners out there:
I discovered that a startac will fit in the small pocket (on the right side) of you jeans...

At least that's one gadget less you have to worry about...

Anyone using the plastic belt-clip holster from Handspring? If so, how do you like it? I'm considering that for things like grocery store runs, and simply palming it in the office.

LanMan: there's a thread on this somewhere on VC. There were some problems with breakage and general quality concerns.
