The Mic and earpiece that is included with the visorphone is pretty cheap. The one that can with my Nokia is great, unfortunatly is doesnt work with the Visorphone. Does anyone know of a good quality earpiece and mic that works with the Visorphone? Oh and Where's the Mute function...???

Better headset/mic

I am looking for this information too. Any success thus far? If the moderator has any information, it would be much appreciated. The mic on the visor barely registers any audible sound on the receiving end and the mic on the headset registers too much.

A Better Headset

I bought the Jabra headset last night for $39.95. It is soooo much better than the headset included with the Visorphone. I picked it up from a Verizon store but I saw it for sale at www.cellular4sale.com and www.jabra.com. It is very comfortable to wear and the callers on the receiving end hear me loud and clear... even better than the boom microphone type (even though Jabra makes this too?). I was wary before buying the headset as to how good the quality could be because the mic is embedded in the earpiece. Intuitively, you think the boom mic will sound better since it is closer to your mouth but that's not the case with this headset. And since it is all in one cord it doesn't take up too much space.

If you are wondering I am on the Voicestream network. What Handspring should do is ditch the current headset and include the Jabra model. Sure they'll charge more but what's another 10-15% more when we know the phone is already overpriced to begin with.

I am also after a handsfree earpiece for my visorphone. I posted on this a little while ago but no joy. Any help would be great

I've used several headsets with my visorphone, with varying degrees of success. The one that came with it was ok, but I don't really like the earbud type of headset. I drive a pickup truck, and the mic picks up a lot of background noise. People were always asking me to repeat myself. I prefer a boom mic set-up. I used a cheap no-name one for a while that I got from my local cell phone store. That worked for a few months but the cord went bad. I've had a couple of Plantronics models, they work well. I am currently using a Plantronics M170. It has a 3 position switch for mic volume and a dial for headset volume. It also has a mute button. I have been using this model for almost 2 years (used it on another phone prior to the vphone) and I have no complaints.

The biggest problem with using a headset with the Vphone is that the headset jack breaks if you insert and remove the headset frequently. I now leave mine plugged in all the time, which is rather inconvenient, but I don't want to go through the hassle of getting the phone repaired or replaced every 6 months.

I was trying to make a small extension for the cord, so I could disconnect the headset from the extension and hopefully protect the jack, but I was unable to source the parts I needed (Radio Shack carries the plug but not the jack).

VisorPhone Headphones/Mic

Can't agree more! I've tried over half a dozen different earpice/headsets, AND have "ruined" two VisorPhone earpiece jacks because of EXACTLY what DirtyVicar wrote: snagging cord on door handle, knee, chair, etc., This "stresses" the jack, and it eventually (two in less than one year for me, at $25 bucks per "new phone,.........Guess my "free" VisorPhone is costing me $$$ now!)

Key would be to what DirtyVicar is trying to do, and what I am trying to do. Buy or make a little "Strain relief" cord, so that the NEXT TIME the headset cords gets hooked on something, it will stress the strain relief cord, and NOT the jack itself.

As for headsets, Jabra's (any style) are comfortable, take a little getting used to if you go the earbud route, but a pretty lousy when it comes to background noise. Retractable I got at Staples worked GREAT for a while, but then it gave out B4 the jack did.

Best bang-for-buck, although doesn't "look" too cool is a $29.00 Radio Shack Noise-Cancellation headset/mic. Cord has a mic on-off and volume control. Staff at my office CANNOT EVEN TELL I'm on a cell phone, LET ALONE IN MY CAR. It's an over the head, dual speaker job, witha boom mic. Hey, at $29 a pop, I can go thru a few a year. (on my second) what I like about it (as with all the others) is that when I'm at my home office, I can easily unplug from VP, and plug into my cordless. Thats all for now.
