I still have my vdx. Not quite ready to buy, just want to have a compelling reason to spend any money, or until vpl lowers in price or perhaps be more feature enhanced by then...

Case in point, I just spent $200 at costco for a small a/c -- seems to be a hulk of a hardware and offers a lot of comfort. Would that $200 spent on a vpl instead offer a similar improvement in quality of life?

Thinking about the relative lower pricing of handheld calculators it makes me wonder how low can these PDAs go...

Anyway when the time seems right, more hopefully your discount code will work. Thanks for the posting.

That's not really a fair comparison. What if you already have a big a/c? Then surely the VPL would provide your with more improvement in quality of life.

It all depends on what you have and what you need.

That makes sense, and I should've been clearer... I never had an a/c until the recent costco purchase, and I already have a VDX. How much better would it be if I upgraded to a VPL? Is it worth shelling out another $200 or so? To what extent would the upgrade offer an improvement? Is the VPL a lot more stable (crash-resistant) than the VDX? Just a few things I'm thinking about...

I recently upgraded from the 2meg Visor to a Plat. Because this quadrupled my RAM, this was a good move for me though I still keep a lot of stuff on my Memplug. I have noticed that big apps like Avantgo run significantly faster on the Platinum, but it is up to you if it is worth $200 especially since you already have 8 megs of RAM... to me it would not be because as a graduate student I am on a very low budget.

The Platinum does have a newer version of the PalmOS though, which will allow you to run more apps - I have been noticing lately that some newer software requires 3.5. (For example, you can use Album to Go 2.0 which has more features like multiple albums.) Graphics look better with the improved greyscale support.

Howdy!

Just a general thanks to you helpful Visorcentral folks for tips such as this one. Saved me 40 bucks.

It was time to upgrade my venerable BVD to a Plat. Why? I tried a Plat, and noticed the difference. Sigh- mistake.

Also curious about 3.5's stability. And I found a buyer for my BVD.

So, thanks again for being such a good resource.

I had to write and thank you for the coupon info. I had an edge for just under a month, and I really didn't like it (I know, I know, it's great and everyone loves it but me ). In any event, I sent it back and was deciding between a vdx and a plat. Well, I got the plat, tax included for 222 from staples (just about same price as vdx with tax). So far, so good. Thanks. (Plus, now I can also get a stowaway!)Better change my name now I guess.

Just picked up a Platinum at Staples for under $183.00 (including tax)

Since Handspring just dropped the prices on the Platinum and the local stores here (Southern CA) seem to be having a price war on Visor's. The local Staples is selling them in the store for $199.99 I had a $30.00 coupon #71412 so that dropped the price to under $183.00. The only disadvantge is that you have to bring in a copy of the coupon the get the discount if you buy it in the store. It might be worth checking with Staples website if they will match the $199.00 price from Handspring on the web.

Since I'm a newbie at this, does anyone have a case they particularly like? I'm trying to find a zipper case that doesn't use velcro to hold the unit in, but I'm not wild about $60.00 to $70.00 I'm seeing on Handspring's website. The only thing I've found so far is a Day-Timer case that zips and has sort of a frame to put the unit in.

Personally I like the slip case that came with my Ice VDx best. (I don't know why but I've always had a fondness for slip cases and when I found the slip-case in my box I was very happy as I didn't know it came with one.)

I agree, techie2000, but probably for a different reason than you do. Sure, I have a nice, heavy-duty case formy Visor and all the modules that I put in my backpack when I go to school or use when I am riding my bike to work. However, this case isn't very practical to carry as a belt-clipped case (the Expedition is a little big). I would use something like that Bi-fold case that I got with my Platinum, but I can't fit it in there with my MemPlug installed. This is a major problem since most or nearly all of my programs are on my MemPlug. Finally, I don't want to use the slipcase that came with my VPL because the fit is to tight for comfort. So I use the slip case that came with my green VDX. Fit tightly enough to keep it in there, loosely enough for me to easily get it out of there.

In the end, I just gave my Bi-fold case to my sister-in-law who also has a VPL. I just have a Visor Platinum family. Only my mom doesn't have a VPL. She has an e-Bookman. Not very good in my opinion but for what she want to do with it, i.e. read books, it's okay.
