-- Vaja vs. Rhodiana (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10805)

Posted by raptor on 01-12-2001 04:31 AM:

I just recently purchased a very small pouch from Case Logic meant for Gameboys and other portable gaming systems. This works wonderfully as a Stowaway/multi-Springboard pouch, but is a bit cramped with the Visor in it. Sooo, I've decided to carry the Visor outside of this pouch to free up more room inside. The above mentioned cases are the two that I believe can do this best while maintaining usability.

The Vaja case looks really nice and still retains its belt-clip, which will allow me to carry it virtually anywhere with little trouble. The Rhodiana, from what I've heard, is also great, but they stopped making the belt-clip version. While this means I can't carry it on my belt at all times, I CAN use the rear straps to attach it to the aforementioned Case Logic pouch.

Here are some questions I have about both cases:

-How do they stand up against weather? While I don't exactly brave the elements 24-7, I am a college student and have found myself trudging across campus in the rain quite a few times. With the Vaja on my belt (and most likely underneath a raincoat), there is a chance that it will take a few drops of water, and I do not wish to ruin the leather. The Rhodiana case, being nylon, looks like it may fare a little better under some minor 'splashage'. My Incipio zipper case was great in the rain, as it was relatively waterproof and survived when my bookbag flooded during a REALLY strong storm.

-How are they with Springboard modules? I do own a Minstrel S, and I've completely abandoned my quest for a Visor/Minstrel work-thru case. I don't expect to be able to carry the modem in the Visor at all times, but I will want to be able to use it. Is removing the Visor the only option for both of these cases? Or does one have the option of leaving it 'partially open' for oversized modules? I know the Rhodiana closes with snaps, but what happens if you leave the flap open and the snaps undone? Is there ANY room to slide the modem in and out for 'net usage? Does anyone out there know if a Minstrel/Visor case is even in the works?

Secondly, what about standard sized modules? I will frequently be popping my Backup module in and out, and I'd like to know how easily accessible the springboard slot is for each case.

-How is the interchangability between Visor models? I know that these cases are meant for the units they specify, but I currently own a Blue VDx and plan to upgrade to a Prism in the near future. I will most likely purchase a Prism version case and just let my VDx 'rest' there in the interim. The Vaja looks like it may work better, as it appears to just be a 'pocket' that holds the unit. I do not wish to purchase a VDx case that will be obsolete within a few weeks. Conversely, I do not wish to leave my VDx 'naked' between now and the time that I purchase my Prism. How would these cases fare between now and then?

-How modifiable is the Rhodiana case? If I were to purchase a Rhodiana case and a cell phone belt clip, what are my chances of modifying the case to include the belt-clip? Is this a possibility? Or should I just stick with the Vaja for beltability?

I thank anyone that is able to offer their opinions here. I've read through many of the posts on both cases, and most people seem to be satisfied with their choice. However, there were still some questions that I didn't find answers to, so hopefully I can gather those within this post. Again, I thank you all for your time.

Cool

You have a lot of very good questions, I wish I had answers.

But for the record, there are separate Rhodiana cases for the VDX and the Prism. I haven't tried it, but while a VDX might be able to fit a Prism case, there is no way a Prism will fit in the VDX case. The Prism is bigger.

My brother modified his Rhodiana to accomodate an Eyemodule Springboard.

For standard sized Springboards, just opening the snaps on the Rhodiana will allow access to the Springboard.
