-- Why did they move the IR on the edge????? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12968)

Question

Why did they move the Ir.
I don't know about you, but I think it is a strange place for the IR, and makes it even harder to beam info to another handheld!

Any ideas????
That black thing on the side is the IR, right???

The IR was moved a little further down than what we are used to because of the springboard adapter. The springboard attaches to the sides of the Edge. This way, while using a springboard the IR will not be blocked. However, I do agree that it looks out of place.

That's what I thought to. But look at this picture. The springboard adaptor would not cover the Ir even if it was in the same place as on the deluxe.

Question

Well crap, if the IR is not blocked by a springboard why move it? There must be a reason, right?

Maybe it's just because of the internal hardware, for example the springboard connector support they had to squeeze into the smaller frame. It's probably similar to the reason they had to move the power button on the Prism -- the only way they could get all that stuff to fit was to move things around a bit.

Going on what you just said, doesn't anybody else find it intresting that the power button on the edge is on the same side as the prism, and not on the same side as the Dlx, and the platnium.

Similar to Palm

Moving the Power button is a similar tactic by Palm to denote rechargeable batteries verus replaceables. I wouldn't spend a great deal of time worrying about why they moved this or that. Take a look at the laptop(s) manufacturers over the years ....no consistency.

It's because they wanted to move it and since we are sheep following along blindly....it doesn't make a difference. We will buy it regardless of where the IR port is unless it will physically blind us during use.
