When trying to hotsync, I get an error as the unit logs on to Avantgo. The error reads:

Error:5453 Could not resolve the MAL server name.

Just prior to synching, I got an error on the visor indicating that Avantgo could not be found with an error message. Hitting the back arrow on the Visor took me to the Avantgo home page of the visor.

I deleted the the Avantgo program from the visor, thinking I had some bad information, and got the same error when I tried to resync. ( I had loaded Avantgo into the install portion of the desktop).

Everything else syncs fine.

I had this problem because of a firewall I am behind. I ended up having to use the ip address of sync.avantgo.com to get it to work. You may be able to resolve it by running the Mobile Link test.

I am not very computer literate. How do I use the IP address to sync (and where do I find it?) How do I run the mobile test link?

Go to a DOS prompt and type "ping sync.avantgo.com" (w/o the "). There should be an app in the AvantGo group called MobileLink. Run that and first test the connection. If it does not work, see if you need to enter any proxy settings (if you are in an office, check w/ your administrator). Then test again. If it still doesn't work, change the settings so the host name is the ip address you got from earlier.
