Lightbulb

I've been using a Xircom Springport 56K modem for the last week with no problems (except for a few soft returns when I first started using it). As I was looking at it, I noticed how similar in size and voltage the battery pack was to a StarTac (Motorola) rechargeable battery. Long story short: I called Xircom technical support and the guy told me to go ahead and give it a try. The StarTac battery seems to work exactly like the battery pack but it is rechargeable. BTW, the tech guy said that if it messed up the unit, it comes with a lifetime warranty...

So I am going to use the StarTac battery and just keep the battery pack with its 3 AAA batteries as a backup.

I noticed the same thing. However, I got a completely different answer when I called Xircom on this a week or so ago. It seems to work? That would be great. My wife and I both have StarTacs, and between the two of us we have four battery packs, so it would be handy to use the rechargeable.

When we were at PC Expo, they said that the StarTac battery would work with the Xircom modules.

Thumbs up star tac battery still working fine

The StarTac battery is working just fine some 24 hours or so later. I've used it to check e-mail as well as synch Avantgo. No problems at all. I'm anxious to see how long before the Slim Main Lithium Ion battery gets a "low battery" message on the Springport

I'm not familiar with the StarTac but would be very interested since I've really been using up the batteries with the Springport. Can anyone provide a link where I can get more information or suggest where I might purchase one?

Since I finally got the calling card to work the Springport has been a great modem. I think the problems I have are located on the ISP end.
