I'm new to the PDA world and the only experience I have with this is a HP-200LX.

I'm seriously considering a VISOR because of the Springboard feature and price. I'm now trying to decide if I should order the standard Visor at 2 MB or the Delux with 8 MB.

For those with previous PDA experience, is it work the extra money to jump up to 8 MB? For those with more than 2 MB of RAM in your PDA are you using more than 2MB of RAM?

Thanks,
Gregg

It depends on what you plan to do. If all you are going to use the Visor for is the built in apps and springboards, you could probably get by with 2MB. If you plan on reading websites or documents, you may want to go with the Deluxe.

I started with a Palm personal - 512K. Never thought I would need more. 5 months later, I got the 2mb upgrade. I never thought I would need more. Now I can't wait for my VisorDelux.

If you get hooked, you will only want more.

Cool

Two megs is probably enough if you plan to use it solely as an organizer. If, however, you think you might install additional software and e-books, then definitely consider the Deluxe. I'm currently using about 4 megs.

I thought I would only need 2 megs.. but I figurged that 70 bucks was a small price to pay to potentially avoid kicking myself for not having enough.

Seems as if they're going to release more games which take up a bunch of space, plus documents, web pages, etc are taking up more space. I've filled upabout 4 megs now and I haven't used Avant go.. that might take up a few megs more right there.

Go for the Deluxe. it WAS a good deal.. 180 for a 2 meg machine.. back when palms were 250 for the same thing. Now with palms at 180 you might as well get the deluxe.

One word: Games. Lots and lots of games

Wink

My original Palm with 112k had enough memory for my organization. A friend of mine uses her 2mb Palm III for organizing _everything_, and still stays below 1 mb because she doesn't download many 3rd party apps. Palm Apps are much much smaller than WinCe apps, so you need less memory even if you do want them. However, since I got the 8mb, I have been able to fill it up quite quickly. First of all, I have lots of text on it. Also, I have many AvantGo channels. And of course, gams games games. So if you plan to download a lot, go for the 8mb. If you just want a personal organizer, stick with 2mb.

When I got my palmIII as a gift last year when they first came out I only used it as a phonebook and datebook. I never came close to utilising even half its memory for almost a year. Then I started to use 3rd party apps, and my PIII morphed into my now invaluable best friend. But I have now almost maxed out on the memory.
My humble opinion:
8meg is overkill for a simple organiser if that is what you will use it for, but might be required if you intend to take advantage of many of the thousands of 3rd party apps out there.

Talking

Most likely, you won't need the extra memory (before you want to upgrade your entire organizer to a color one) I got the deluxe for the clear color and the leather slip case is kinda nice too.

Maybe someday I'll find a use for much of that memory, but so far not yet

Smile

ebooks will use up the memory fast! I've never read Anna Karenina, but I have a 4.5 Meg of doc files waiting on my desktop machine for my Vdx+flash card to arrive.

I had a 2Mb Palm until recently, and was surprised how often I could do a little light reading while waiting for a plane, subway or appointment. I had a complete selection of Sherlock Holmes short stories on the Palm, but full books didn't fit. There's a HUGE selection of free classics on the net that you can download for free.
