Question

I just got a VDX (Blue, to match the dash on my VW. I'm such a dork.) Anyways, I'm reading the manual, and have read the FAQ... but then I came here and see this "DRAM" problem. I've searched visorcentral for info before asking this question here... but I wanted to get some definitive answers, and I'm hoping you won't mind.

How do you know if you have the DRAM issue?
Should I DL the patches, or do they cause battery drain problems as I'm seeing on this board?

The FAQ needs MAJOR updating (though whoever set it up did a good job... it's out of date, and there are bad links, as well as a lack of info for new users)

Can anyone point me to a list of must have software or updates?

clarification

Okay...
Just so I don't upset anyone (particularly FAQ maintainer types, who typically get the short end of the stick) it appears that the bad links may have been caused by my DNS or the servers in question being down (though most likely not my end, since I was surfing this site and others at the time). I am able to reach those pages now.

Also, I see on the Handspring site that the updater is the way to find out if your Visor is effected. So that scratches part of my question, but the rest still stands. Any help would be much appreciated!

Check out the Handspring site and download the test. It will quickly tell you if you have the DRAM problem. I purchased my unit as soon as orders were taken (October/November 99) and did not have any problems. I did load the portion of the patch that delt with minor issues such as launching the calculator when touching the lower right portion of the screen. Problem solved and have not noticed any battery drain since.

As far as finding must-have software, this is a popular question. If you search that phrase, or ones like it, you should find lots of useful stuff to read.
Welcome to the fold.
