-- USB Syncing (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1975)
I have a VDX, both Serial and USB cradles. Serial cradle is used with work machine running WinNT 4.0. VDX detects serial connection and communicates with work machine without a hitch.
USB cradle is SUPPOSED to be used with home machine running Win98. One USB slot, no USB hub. USB port works just fine with CanoScan U620 scanner. Plugged in the USB cradle and the appropriate drivers were installed.
Running HSM 3.0.2H as required.
VDX does not detect a connection through the USB cradle. HSM doesn't fire up. It obviously isn't in the VDX -- the serial communication would not work otherwise. Unclear as to whether it's the USB connection or the PC itself. Will be trying the VDX on the laptop (the home machine) with the serial cradle tomorrow.
Has anyone encountered this particular behaviour?

Found this on their site.
Also have the same issues with magic text and hackmaster ---will keep you informed.

If you try to synchronize Visor without installing the new Handspring version of the HotSync Manager, your computer can get into a state where it cannot properly locate some specific USB drivers. If your computer prompts you for the location of these system files, select the VISORUSB.SYS file located in the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory. To avoid this problem, be sure to first install the desktop software that comes on the CD-ROM included with Visor.
If HotSync Manager fails to connect, try removing other USB devices-even if they are connected to another USB port.
I spoke with Handspring Technical Support today and got the answer.
Be aware that this answer is used at your own risk because it involves modifying the registry.
The problem comes up when you attempt to Hotsync before the Handspring software has been properly installed. Simply put, Windows is stupid. It begins enumerating the USB port but doesn't have the software to install. Instead of dying gracefully, it leaves garbage in the registry.
To fix the problem:
1. Run regedit.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/USB.
3. You will see a key entitled VID_082D&PID_0100.
4. Delete this key.
5. Exit regedit.
6. Hotsync.
Windows98 will now detect that you have 'new hardware' and successfully HotSync.
That is ... if you don't have datebook errors, like I did (-:
19991223az: Just a note. The hotsync did happen successfully, but I didn't consider it a 'perfect' sync (-:

Had the same USB cradle sync problem. What fixed it for me was to uninstall all the extensions in HackMaster and do reset from the HackMaster screen. Have not had a problem since.
In the process of reinstalling each extension (have 8). TrekSounds is ok -- AfterBurner is the one I am curious about.
Thank you AZiegler! Your suggestion worked! My visor is now hotsyncing!
