Hello,
I was wondering if these have the same problem (a mold defect on the tip) as the stylus, that ships with the Visor, does? Also, do they feel any different? Heavier/lighter?

I was never fully convinced that there was a mold defect on the standard stylus, but I can say that the 5-pack stylii are far superior.

Th tip you mentioned, besides unscrewing and housing a reset pin, has a much smaller smooth area when compared to the standard stylus, perhaps this was in response to the "mold defect" you alluded to. I honestly can't tell you if the new tip is better or not because again, I didn't see any definitive evidence of any problems with the old one.

My biggest complaint with the standard stylus was the fact that it was all plastic and felt light. In this respect, the 5-pack stylus is most improved. You ask if the weight is different? It's much more substantial. You don't need to press as hard to activate the touch screen with the new stylus. The feel is much more positive.

Lastly, the other end unscrews to house a screwdriver for taking your Visor apart if you dare.

I highly recommend getting one (or 5).

Unfortunately, Handspring only sells them in the 5-pack. Occasionally, people will buy 5-packs and offer up some of the less popular colors in the Accessories forum. Keep your eyes peeled.

I agree that the "defect" in the original stylus was an overblown statement. Because a plastic part has a mold line or sprue, doesn't make it "defective. There is also a mold line on the premium stylus.

One thing about a writing instrument - there is a LOT of personal preference involved. I love the weight of the premium stylus, but I love the stiffer tip of the standard one. I have to push harder with the premium then I did with the stock model. It doesn't matter to me, because I use a screen protector BUT I do scuff my screen protector MORE with the premium than the stock.

I'll stick with the stock because of the heft and because it looks cool!

Perhaps there were variations in the quality control. *My* stylus (until I smoothed it out) had sharp ridges that, at the proper angle, would scratch the screen.

For my money, that's defective. Fixable, but you shouldn't have to. They could have put the mold line somewhere else, or tightenned the tolerances. New users should smooth out the tip of their stylus if they can feel any sort of ridge.

Even so, I *still* love my BVD.

Can you use regular Palm styli with the Visor? I'm sure any stylus will work, is it just a matter of them not fitting properly into the slot on the Visor?

Yes, the 5-pack stylus fits perfectly into the Visor slot.

PDA Panache www.pdapanache.com is selling a high end Visor stylus. It is pricey $15 but looks very nice. I ordered one, but am still waiting for it.

I am not real fond of the standard stylus. I am an engineer and deal with molded parts as part of my job and the mold that is being used to produce the stock stylus is crap. The problem isn't a parting line at the tip but the female shape of the core pin that forms the tip is flawed. It looks like they turned the electrode used to make the mold and that there is a turning flaw that was not properly removed. Plus, I am sure it is a multi-cavity mold so there may be a bunch of different flaws out there.

I love my BVD though, and would rather buy a stylus of my choosing anyway.
