I am going to buy a Prism in Jan. I have a concern over the battery not being able to be replaced without sending the unit back to Handspring. What does everyone think about this?

Lithium-ion batteries have a pretty good track record. They don't suffer from memory effects like Ni-Cads and they can handle many more charging cycles than NiMH batteries. Even with heavy usage, the battery's service life should be measured in years.

My guess is that in a couple years, Handspring will make it possible for the service departments of a retail outlet such as Best Buy to replace Prism batteries. I've actually peeked inside my Prism and it turns out that it's a very easy job to change out the battery. Hopefully Handspring will even make replacements available to consumers ... though at the rate PDA technology is advancing, the battery will probably outlive the Prism's "useful" lifespan

thanks for your reply .your right the way i go through electronics the battery probably will outlast the Prism
