-- Visor Delayed? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=277)
C-net has just posted an article claiming Visor will be delayed.
Here's the link for you all who'd like to read about it:

Palm IIIx's for 130 dollars sound pretty good to me.......COME ON HANDSPRING, speak out!
-Achilles
That springboard will be worth the wait. Plus having something other than a regular Palm. The Visor will ship in October...its just the 12th. I believe Jeff Hawkins won't let us down...

Not sure if early orders will be delayed, but TRG's entry into market may slow things down. Still asking the all important question: Why doesn't Handspring just tell us when they will ship?
Probably too many factors involved and they are working 24/7 to get things done and out the door.
What cnet really said was not that the shipments of early orderers would be delayed. CNet did say that the HS online store was overwhelmed and _current_ orders might not be shipped until December.
here is a quote from the article:
" Online sales, originally conceived as the primary way to sell the Visor, were halted recently because of unexpectedly high traffic to the Web site, a company spokesman said. Handspring is currently only taking phone orders, and some customers are reportedly being told not to expect to receive their device before December. Handspring representatives insist the first round of Visors will ship sometime in October, as originally planned. "
"Demand had been high, but there have been no manufacturing delays," the spokesman said, denying that any
customers have been told otherwise. Online sales will resume "very soon," he said. "
I know... just trying to stir the pot a bit.
Dear Craig,
The order will be shipped before the end of this month.

Just to add some vigor to the spoon...
Is that 'very soon' in mountain-time or mayfly-time?

great info Craig! Thanks for the post!
How I read the article was that people now ordering on the phone have been told to wait until December..
Maybe i just have too much faith in Handspring that we will get the visors soon
Anybody knows how much the TRG's new toy is gonna cost?
I just got off the phone with Handspring, and they told me that they will not ship until October 31st. This is for EARLY orders as well. Though these orders will ship on Oct. 31, it will take one to two weeks into November until we get them. I cancelled my order and have contacted Buy.com for a Palm IIIx. So long HAndspring. Good luck getting any of the first timers who cancel back. Bad communication kills companies. Et tu Handspring.
Thanks KoineBoy!!
That means there is one less Visor shipment in front of mine!
Well, I ordered mine on October 5...and they told me to expect shipment in "three weeks" ....meaning I should expect the thing to ship somewhere around October 26. So if they ship out around the 31st, that will be a delay of ...5 days. (Actually, since the 31st is a Sunday, I doubt that will be the actual ship date.)
Gee, if I hadn't been hanging around here waiting for news, I wouldn't even have suspected that anything was wrong...and now that I've heard about the Dreadful Delay...guess what, I still don't think anything is wrong. Your mileage may vary.
I agree that Handspring certainly SHOULD have coordinated their order-taking. The hasty crashing and removal of the online store is little better than an embarassment. They probably shouldn't have farmed out the order-taking to an outside contractor, since that seems to have led only to confusion and differing information being given out.
I don't see that any of these problems is a deal-breaker as far as my own personal order is concerned, but I wish they'd have planned better for the level of demand they seem to have stirred up.
I wonder where CNet is getting their information? Seems if anyone was being told December we'd have heard about it on this board before now...
I have lived over 30 years without any kind of palm device (Newton too big) so I figure I can wait out a delay that, even if long as stated in the cnet article, would be relatively brief. I'll admit I was a little shocked at how disorganized the crew I ordered my VDx from sounded over the phone a few weeks ago, but give these guys a break. It looks like the product will be worth the wait.
Hawkins said that the Visor will ship by Oct. 15th. Originally, the statement was will ship in October. We were also told when we called on Sept. 14th to expect a confirmation email within a week of our order. To date no one has received that email.
It would be nice to receive any email from Handspring providing real information and not just all of the rhetoric we see here. I'm willing to wait because of the Info World feedback but it is very unprofessional.
Regarding the article in more specific terms...where did they come up with a ship date in December. Cnet does not usually post such info without some backup. It just goes to show that rumors both drive the world of business as well as the private sector.
I will not cancel like some people because I want the Springboard. Those people who are cancelling and ordering Palm devices will probably be content because they don't want or need the Springboard technology. That's fine it is a free country....well sort of if you don't think about the taxes we all pay.
Lighten up business world and members of this forum...life goes on with or without a Visor.

The following reply came from Ed Colligan, the VP of Marketing and Sales. Not much more informatoin except for the same old party line, but he is still say an October ship date.
From Ed Colligan:
I am sorry if you have received any conflicting information. On the date of
our announcement, September 14th, we stated that we would be shipping in
October. That has not changed and is still the plan of record. We have
been faced with demand beyond our expectations, and system glitches bringing
our new ordering and support systems up to speed. Unfortunately, this has
led to our web systems being up and down, and the call load at the call
center to be very high. We are doing everything humanly possible to rectify
the situation with both the web site and the call center.
We value our customers very much and plan to stick to our commitments. We
have always said that we will ship the products in the order received
begining in October. Regardless of whether you placed your order at the
call center or via the web site we are processing these orders by order date
and they will ship out in the order received. Clearly, we did not plan to
have these start-up problems and we hope you can be patient. Believe me
when I say that the interests of our customers are top of mind.
Thank you for being a Handspring customer.
Ed Colligan
Vice President Marketing & Sales
I am putting my money that this guy is right. My credit card (like some other guys) expires at end of October. I -almost- faltered and did some Valueamerica deal and bought a Palm V this morning. But I must remain vigilant and keep the peace and hold out for my blue deluxe. Just a matter of time right?
Zen
I ordered my Visor Deluxe on about Sep 22
(I don't have a Palm to record the exact date....) I was concerned about not having any confirmation of my order and I am going to be out of town for a couple of weeks. So I emailed support to ask for confirmation that my order was in the system and whatever shipping information they could provide.
Here is their answer:
--------------------------
We do have you in our system. We have here that you ordered a Visor Deluxe
package in a Blue color. You placed your order with a visa and your shipping
address is in San Antonio Texas.
As per your order number you should receive it in another week.
The visor is also shipped 4-6 weeks from the day that you place your order.
I hope that I have helped you out even a little by confirming that information.
------------
Note this says I should RECEIVE it in another week! Of course I will be out of town by then... and they may mean SHIP by then... but I'm hopeful it will be waiting in my inbox when I return!
Also: It would have been nice if she had provided the order number she referred to... I didn't have one since I've never received any email from Handspring, but she apparently found my order. I'm not sure if she was reluctant to give it to me, or just figured I didn't need it.

I just placed my order this morning for a Visor Deluxe... they told me to expect it in 4-6 weeks. I guess this may be where C-Net got December from as December is about 6 weeks from now. Before they took the on-line store down, 4-6 weeks was what they were saying on it too, and for those that reserved them when they started taking orders, 4-6 weeks would put it in the Oct. 15-31 time frame.
But I've gotten along fine myself for 30 years w/o one, I think I can get by w/o one for another few weeks...
Plus it's still $200 cheaper than the Palm Vx (and is infinitely more expandable), has the same amount of memory, and I certainly don't put $200 in value on the rechargeability of the Vx.
