Question

Hey,
With a modem SpringBoard for the Visor could you dial into your local ISP (that you have an account with) and retrieve mail? Would you need to use a special internet service?

Thanks

You should be able to, yes. I've done it
on a Palm Professional with the 3com 14.4kbps modem.

It should be a little more practical on an
8MB Visor with the 33.6kpbs Handspring modem.

even more important - can I buy a 6-pack, and use a Visor as my mini-computer when I am away from home?

Can I do email AND surf the web? At least web-based email and maybe auction sites would be great for me.

Lightbulb

I was reading your question when I happened to come upon a neat little tutorial that will show you how to connect your Visor to a network (i.e.- The Internet) using the modem. If you want to take a look go to http://www.learnlots.com/webskins/l...&LL_Style=1
Enjoy :-)

Question

CompuPika,

Neat tutorial, thanks for pointing it out. However, i don't think the "Mail" function will work through the modem. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it wouldn't and that you will require separate software to send email off of your visor. Have you seen anything anywhere to prove that wrong?

I would love to hit 'send' in the 'mail' function and have it send that email via the modem module connected to my ISP.

Cool

As an aside, once Bluetooth springboards are available you will be able to seemlessly do all this. I personally think the Bluetooth model is going to be the "TCP/IP equivlent" for the handheld/wireless world. Comments?

Unhappy

The bluetooth module might make the visor alot like the palm VII but i still don't like the idea of paying huge amounts of money to use their ISP when i have my free one at work!!
i like the idea of having the modem module and logging into work from anywhere to get my email and web access.
