Purple VIsor

Thats about as good as you can get with the plastic. Most plastic has the dye added while the plastic is still liquid. I did a bit of research while trying to figure out a better way than RIT dye, and most of the really nifty ideas require toxic chemicals and a really nice lab. If anyone else has any good knowledge of how to dye plastic, I would be very interested.

Question

Would paint work ? Or are you trying to preserve the transparency of the case ?

Posted by sowens on 09-19-2000 08:30 PM:

There used to be transparent paints available for painting glass. They worked well, and produced deep colors. I toyed with these a really long time ago, but you may still be able to find them in hobby stores.

Transparent Paints

A local hobby store also mentioned this. I wanted to use dye, since dye doesn't flake off or change the tolerances of finely machined plastic...

I would suspect that you could paint the inside of the visor case with transparent paint, but I don't know how
well it would turn out.

The other thought I have had is vacuforming cover plates to fit over the case. Similar to the Nokia snap on covers. I would love to get a really nice wood look, or perhaps chrome. Will post pics if I manage to get it to work.
