Magellan Trouble
I am using a Visor DX with my Magellan and Mapopolis 4. I live in Hawaii and the GPS doesn't seem to track too well. When I am standing on the beach it tells me that I am 93 ft. above sea level. How does that work?
Also, while I am driving it tracks my speed with 100% accuracy but it tells me that I am about 1/8 of a mile from where I actually am. Is this because of one of those Continental Drift things or is it suppose to be this innacurate? Also, I am using the registered map and not the shareware map.
I like the product but I am wondering if it won't be more accurate when I move back to the mainland.
I would not counting on better accuracy.
How is Mapopolis? Worth the $?

I don't know about the altitude but I do know that the quality of the maps seriously affects the "accuracy" of the GPS. I bought the premium maps from mapopolis and they are dead on accurate.
Mapopolis and Stuff
Thanks for the replies,
I like the premium map that I use mostly because I deliver pizza for Dominos here on the North Shore and it is mostly rural. Looking for addresses is a BIG help.
I have tried using the Map Companion software but it does the very same thing as Mapopolis - speed is frighteningly accurate but it tells me that I am way off course. I guess the good thing is that as I drive it accurately determines my direction it just doesn't follow the map very closely.
I like everything about this GPS, but I have been questioning that altitude thing (is it calculating altitude from the East Coast?) and the disparity of location while it autoscrolls. It is a fun little toy and I can't wait to try it out on some hikes back home in Arizona.
... One more thing
I do like Mapopolis. The one major difference between Mapopolis and Map Companion is that with Map Companion you can load maps by City rather than County, as it is with Mapopolis. This way you don't have these huge maps which take up large chunks of memory, but at the same time you can't look for particular addresses.
I'll still be using Mapopolis from now on, though.

Unfortunatly the mapopolis maps are much larger than the magellan maps. I'll trade dead-on accuracy for size until they have handhelds with 64MB+ memory.

New Delorme Software
I just got a card from Delorme about their new Xmap software. Its supposed to be released on May 1 and do address to address directions. Anyone know anything else about it? Like if it works with the Magellan unit?

Has anyone mentioned how Mapopolis maps automaticlly flip 90 deg to keep your traveling direction moving up on the screen, and not just keep North up? This is great while driving. Map Companion keeps your position in the middle of the screen which helps you see what is ahead. If I could combine the two that would be great!
Delorme Xmap
In typical software company style, Delorme has pushed its release of Xmap up a couple of weeks. The website now says Mid May. Anyone have any more info on this? I really want to get my hands on it!

Well, my Magellan is fairly accurate here in Southern California. I think the little inaccuracies are due to the fact that I'm still using the free maps.

Where did you find it?
Where did you find it on buy.com? I just went looking for it hoping to find a better price and could only find Solus Pro. Can you find a link to it?
Thanks,
Jesse
