-- Tactilis Flip Clip Review (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10141)

Thumbs up

Okay, lets get one thing straight, I absolutely hate the two covers that came with my Visor Platinum. I only have two hands (one for the Visor, one for the stylus) so the leather cover went the way of the dodo the first day I tried to use it. The plastic cover was just too much trouble to move to the back of the unit and I always thought that my butterfingers would drop my $300 organizer (luckily only the cover hit the ground)

Then you throw a Novatel Minstrel S wireless modem into the mix and those covers are absolutely worthless. The leather cover simply will not fit and the modem covers the clip on the top of the Visor.

I already carry a pretty nice leather organizer (pens, paper, discs, etc) and it had a pocket that was a perfect fit for the Visor. The problem was that I still wanted some kind of screen protection when I wasnt carrying my 9 X 12 organizer. I started my search for some kind of cover that was small, semi-permanently attached to the Visor and allowed me to use oversized Springboard modules such as the Minstrel.

My search came to an end when I found the Tactilis FlipClip (http://www.tactilis.com/). From the pictures I could find it seemed to meet all my criteria, and it was inexpensive so if it didnt work with the Minstrel I was only out $10. So, like many others on this board I waited and waited until I could order one of these covers.

I was surprised by a phone call the other night from Tactilis. Apparently Novatel was too cheap to send them specs of the Minstrel, much less a test unit so they said they would ship mine out early to test the fit for them. Today I was greeted by a package from Tactilis containing my FlipClip and Platinum cover.

The FlipClip comes in two colors, Ice and Graphite. I would recommend the Ice color to anyone interested in this even if you do have a Graphite Visor, my reasoning is that the Graphite would cover the logos on the top of the Visor, the Ice lets the Handspring guy show right through. There is no messy glue or other adhesives involved with this cover, it simply holds itself in place with friction. I cant imagine this would rub paint off your Visor either, unless you removed and replaced the cover many times.

The FlipClip fits fine with the Minstrel S modem in place and I can even Hot Sync with the cover on the Visor.

My only complaint with the FlipClip after 3 hours of use is the cover itself. The cover is designed for a PalmIII and the fit on the Visor leaves some room for improvement, there is about a 1/8 gap between the front of the visor and the cover, but the cover does make contact with the Visor at the bottom. Also the read through portion of the cover is a little too dark to really read anything through it. This should be corrected when Tactilis releases their own cover early next year.

I would rate this a must have for anyone who is unhappy with the covers that come with the Visor, especially once Tactilis releases a Visor specific lid.

Wink Good to know

Thanks a ton for the info. I'm thrilled to know that all works well with the "Minstrel S" Module. I'll be sure to send you betas of our other works in progress to get "fit" feedback. BTW Anyone out there with the Handy GPS or a beta Geodiscovery wanna trade a report on fit for a free part?
