Talking

Wow. I finally got an email from Handpsring (sorta), as, I believe, anyone else who signed up for the email newsletter did. Basically it stated that some other company was now in charge of the email newsletter, and that we needed to send an email to that new company to re-confirm our subscription to the newsletter.

This isn't much, but it's nice to finally see something from them. I don't quite understand why a high tech company such as HS can't keep their web site up to date, and why any new news about them is learned through other web sites. This period of silence (no order confirmation, no newsletter, no changes to the web site, etc) has caused me a bit of concern. If anyone knows something I don't and has been getting the new newsletter for weeks now, please let us know! Thanks

I got the same note, but I believe that's from HandspringNEWS, not Handspring themselves.

I agree with Nachtswerg. I think it's the newsletter that you can sign up for at http://www.handspringnews.com/

Question

They're different? As in Handpringnews is separate from Handspring?

Handspring, the company, has a newsletter that will be sent out when they are ready to ship.

Handspringnews, the website, also has a newsletter, but it's probably just info and latest updates by an independent web developer not associated with the company.

This is my guess.

nah, look at the design of the handspringnews site. It's just like handspring's. Colors, layout similarities, etc.

Cool

vivid,

Are you claiming it's not easy to steal a Web site's look and use it on another?

Anyhow, here's the InterNIC whois info on handspringnews.com (which quickly proves it does NOT belong to Handspring):

Zippy,

Come on, man, DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

I suppose you didn't realize that Peter Sweeney is a legal proxy for Handspring, retained earlier in the year for various and sundry purposes, one of which is to serve as "technical communications distribution liaison". It is in this capacity and for this reason that he "owns" the HandspringNews domain. He owns a relatively small lawfirm that has specialized in copyright and trademark law for many years, with increasing expertise in technology-related copyright/trademark law.

What all this really means in nothing. I just made it all up because it's late on a Monday night, and I thought I'd have a little bit of fun. Sorry for wasting anyone's time, but hopefully you were pulled for just a little.

Don't flame me too terribly!
